Veterans Day
Mon Nov 11 2002

Today we in the US remember all the Veterans in this country, past and present.

Veterans Day is something that has changed meanings for me over the years. As a child, it was a school assembly followed by a day off from school. In my teens, Veterans Day was a Parade in some town with the Drum & Bugle Corps I was in. For a few years after that it was a day I didn't have to go to work and could sleep in. After joining the Air Force, and particularly after Desert Storm and since 9/11, Veterans Day has taken on a meaning that is closer to home.

For more than 200 years, citizens of this country have answered her needs. For those who fought then returned home, and those who did not return home, we remember you today.

as a child, it was a time to be patriotic. as i got a little older, it was a time to be proud of my daddy, who had served in the army for four years. now, it is a time to remember my dad and grandfather, both gone, and my former Marine, former Army Reserve Drill Sergeant (& combat engineer) hubby. i even wrote an entry about him on his special day. he celebrates the 10th, not the 11th, because the 10th is the Marine Corps birthday.

I know Bob Hope does do a lot for the Military. Too bad he's such a meanie in person to people who work at the water reserve/water company that is on a big portion of the land he owns in California.
My cousin - who is one of the head people at the water company would come home from work telling me that Bob had come to the company to check up on how things were going on his land, and be very nasty and mean to all the girls in the office. That so many times his attitude was uncaring, and rude.
He is a completely different type of person face to face with ordinary people ( aka nobody's to him ) than he shows on TV. And all they were doing was greeting him as he walked in.
She added that everyone at the water company walked on pins and needles when he was around.
I guess he could really throw his weight around because he owned the land that the reserve was on.
But I still think he could have been nice to the women that nicely greeted him whenever he'd arrive.
There are a lot of wonderful people in the world that do so much for the Military, and for the victims of 9/11. Too bad we couldn't say "Thank You to them all." Too many are nameless, anonymous people.

By the way, I love your diary. :) ( Just don't like Bob Hope that much. )
