Hubby had a friend growing up who created their own holiday traditions. They did not bow to the commercialism of Thanksgiving with the traditional Turkey, stuffing and the works dinner. They had pizza and did family stuff on that day instead.
After having toiled over Thanksgiving dinner every year since I got married (OK, except for the year I was gone for Desert Storm), I think that sounds like a great idea for this year. I'm all for popcorn and rootbeer for Thanksgiving dinner! OK, maybe something more than that, but it would be nice to have a Thanksgiving in which I am not entrenched in the kitchen for all but the actual meal.
Maybe I'll suggest Irish Sundae's for Thanksgiving dinner, and perhaps the family taking in a movie!
