We awoke this morning at 3:30am to a trio of voices, "Mom! Dad! Wake up, today is the Fishing Derby!"
I won't repeat here what our reply was, there may be children present.
Several hours later, we woke up and made it down to the lake around 9:30 in order to register before the 10:00 cast-off time. I had brought our bitch Indigo out with us so she could get some exercise and attention.
As we approached the sign-up table, we could hear murmurs in the crowd, "OH MY GOD...LOOK AT THAT HUGE DOG!!!" A few brave children came over and asked to pet her. For some reason, most kids are not afraid of my dogs. Their parents are another story.
"Suzy, get away from that dog before he eats you!"
I reassured the mother that the dog had already been fed, and "SHE" would not eat children. That was met with a dubious look, the mother still clutching the daughter to her while the child struggled to get away and go pet the pretty doggy. I think the mother almost believed me after she saw her daughter and many other children crowded around Indigo, who was LOVING all the attention. I have never seen a dogs eyes roll back into their head from shear pleasure before.
At the end of 2 hours, #1 son had a little 11" trout and we were all well on the way to the big catch of the day....a cold. On the walk home, it was decided that the trout was really too small for dinner, so perhaps one of the dogs should have it? Indigo LOVED it, I don't even think she chewed.
We are now home, each of us finding the best way to warm up. #1 in a hot bath, #2 in a hot shower, #3 cuddled under blankets watching cartoons, Hunkka-hunkka Hubby with a hot bowl of soup and myself with a double Crown and Coke.
Hmm, maybe I should have eaten something first....sure is warm in here.
