Actually my family needs a second computer. One with a bit of umph. And a larger monitor. And a R/W CD/DVD. Maybe a Cray.....
We have two bare bones dinosaurs in the twins rooms for them to do homework on, but they don't support anything other than that. When the boys want to surf cartoonnetwork.com or harrypotter.com, this computer is their only choice.
On any given day, hubby will need to do homework. Guess where? Yep, on this computer.
On any given day, I will need to do bills or any of a dozen other things. Guess where? Yep, on this computer.
Three guesses when any one of us wants to use it? Yep, all at the same time.
Unless I unexpectedly come into some money, win the lottery, or any other fortunate happenstance of money being suddenly available to me, there will be no additional computer in my home anytime soon.
So until then we will continue the family fued centered around who will get to use the computer.
As a note, I tend to cheat outrageously in these fueds. The kids keep wondering why I am sending them to bed SO early....for your health dear, Mommy doesn't want you to get carpal tunnel, now go to sleep....
WOW!!!
Just minutes after making that entry, franisbueno was REALLY bueno and called me. It seems her Hunkky Dave just so happens to be in a Philanthropic position right now.
COOL!!!!
Be it known here that I am now nominating Dave for Philanthropic Sainthood.
While I am not the geek I hope to someday be, I am proud to say I am something of a computer geek. I've been playing with...er, um I mean working on computers for only about 10 years.
I have in mind my perfect computer. Alas, I have accepted the fact that I will never have a Cray. So mentally I have built the next best thing. Since I have to put food on the table and clothes on the bodies of my family, I probably won't have that either (of course I could always win the lottery....).
I didn't really realize how much of my preferences and prejudices had rubbed off onto my kids until the other day I suggested we tinker with the two dinosaurs (one 386 and one 486 with a max of 20MB RAM and 520 HDD's) of the twins and see if we could come up with something with enough umph to run at least some of their games.
Their response..."Mom, these don't have the processor speed or graphic capabilities to run around the block. They will never run our games!"
OK boys, Mommy now needs to teach you to not be as computer snobby as she is. (Of course we are being rescued by Dave, so maybe I will teach them in a couple years.....)
