It's been just under two weeks, and I'm down a total of 12 pounds. To say I'm thrilled is an understatement! I think the most exciting thing about this was yesterday. I spent several hours at the fair with two friends, and was truly not tempted by all the fair goodies. When it came time to find something to eat, I was able to make a sensible choice of chicken and rice. When I was full I recognized that and stopped instead of eating the entire dish.
In the feathers:
We now have 4 chicks under Miss Broody, two Easter Eggers and two Speckled Sussex. All pullets, so in the next few months I'm going to have to find a way to expand my coop. I now have my Cuckoo Maran rooster plus four Cuckoo Maran hens, one black sexlink hen (who has been laying eggs the size of duck eggs lately), one Leghorn which should start laying any day now, and one Easter Egger who I suspect has been laying for several weeks, just not in the nesting boxes.
I don't mind having more hens since I sell the surplus eggs at work, and I enjoy watching them. Which reminds me, I also need to find a bench or swing to put out near the chicken run so I can watch my feathered flowers gobble up bugs and weed seeds to my hearts content!
I have come to accept the fact that I may not ever be a crazy cat lady (I only have two cats!), but I might become a crazy chicken lady.
