I am now the proud owner of four hens. Two are green egg layers, one brown egg layer, and one white egg layer. The only one I can say for sure I know the breed is my white egg layer. She is a classic Ancona (http://www.backyardchickens.com/products/ancona) who I have dubbed "Lady Black". The description of them being flighty is something of an understatement. This hen is firmly in touch with her inner Drama Queen.
My two green egg layers are "probably" Ameraucana's, but the gentleman I bought them from wasn't sure. One is a pretty wheaten and the other is brown and blue, so "Lady Buff" and "Lady Blue" are their monikers.
My brown egg layer is a true mutt. I've compared her with all breeds I can find pictures with, and I think the closest I could guess on her heritage would be Brown Sussex and Rhode Island Red cross. I've named her "Lady Bronze".
I know, not much creativity with the names, but I don't want to give fun cuddly names to chickens who may eventually grace a stew pot.
Any way you look at it, I've got fresh eggs in the fridge which I'm about to go have for breakfast!
