The True Spirit of Christmas
Tue Dec 28 2010

You normally see these kinds of things in e-mails that have been floating around for years, and that nobody really knows the origins of (much less if it's true). This, however, is my neighbor. I can tell you the exact date it happened, and point to the people who experienced it.

You may want a tissue handy first.

Again, not my personal story, but that of my neighbor Amy.

I had to share this story about the man I love...

On Christmas Eve we were lucky enough to have my son Tyler home from the Navy, we had Sarah, Katelyn, Kristopher and Sarah's boyfriend Dallis all over for dinner. I love having them all around the table. The laughter and giggling always warms my heart. The tree was beautiful and everyone was having a great time

As I was making dinner I found myself craving a diet coke, so my husband (the sweetie that he is) offered to run to the 7-11 and grab me one :-) So off he and Katelyn went. The 7-11 is just about 5 minutes from our house and after abut a half hour I noticed they weren't back yet. I texted Katelyn and asked what was up...she said "we had a stop to make so start dinner without us" I thought this was weird but everyone was hungry so we began to eat.

About 15 minutes later I heard Katelyn and Kris come in, Kris went straight to the bedroom...I thought he had bought me a present. We had agreed that we weren't going to so that this year, we did not have the extra money. So I went to the bedroom to go "yell" at him and what I found melted my heart....

He was on the the bed almost in tears...he said "no I did not get you a present" and then proceeded to tell me the story of the mom and little boy at the 7-11....

There was a lady all wet up to her waist and little boy about four, sitting outside the 7-11. Kris had noticed them on the way in. Many people passed in and out of the 7-11 doors with out giving them a second glance. On his way out Kris could not pass her by. He asked her if she was ok. Turns out they had been waiting for a bus for over 2 hours in the pouring rain. She kept under the 7-11 overhang to keep somewhat dry but because of that the busses did not see her in the dark so they did not stop. She and her son were trying to get from Puyallup to Federal Way to see her dad. The little boy was scarffing down an old icky 7-11 hotdog like noone's business while he and his mom waited for the bus. Kris then called Dallis (Sarah's boyfriend- Dallis rides the bus everywhere so Kris knew that Dallis knew the schedules)...Kris asked if the bus stop at the mall would be a better place for her since it is the Puyallup Hub. Dallis said "definately". So Kris offered her a ride to the mall (about 3 miles away) and she accepted.

Kris had noticed how the little boy had woofed down the hotdog so on the way to the mall he said "Are you still hungry little man?" The boy looked at his mom and said "nooo I am ok" Kris said "Are you sure? I was thinking of stopping at McDonald's" The boys eyes lit up and he looked at his mom for approval. "I don't have any money" whispered the mom to Kris. "That's ok, I've got it" Kris whispered back. "Ok but just a dollar cheeseburger" the mom said to the boy. When they got to the drive thru Kris ordered the little boy a Happy Meal...the little boy was squirming in his seat he was so happy! "What about you mom?" Kris asked "Just a dollarcheeseburger for me" so Kris ordered her a Big Mac meal. The mom started to tear up when she saw how excited her little boy was....over a happy meal. " Thank you" she said "It's been so long since I have been able to give him somethig like this"

They got to the mall and Kris asked if she had a phone. She said yes so he gave her is number and said "If the bus does not come, call me and we'll get you where you need to go"

We have not heard from her so we are hoping she did make it to her dad's.

After relaying this story to me, I was then crying....the things we take for granted-the ability to feed out children, a car,a warm house....

This really put things in prospective for both of us. We are truly thankful.

I fell in love even more with my husband that day...and so did Katelyn. "It felt so good" she said. What a great role model for our children. I love you Kris!
