What a Weekend!
Wed Jun 25 2008

We had a family reunion for my Dad’s side of the family this last weekend in celebration of my Grandma’s 90th birthday. I met all my new cousins, there has been many-a-child born since my family got together in 2001 for the wedding of one family member.

Just in our family of direct descendents from my Grandma, there were her 5 children (my Dad, three brothers and one sister), 22 grandchildren & spouses/fiancé, 23 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandbump (one great-grandchild is due in September). Those 51 family members (including Grandma) were joined by another couple dozen cousins and another couple dozen family friends on Sunday at my Aunt’s house for the Great Birthday Hootenanny.

To say it was a blast would be a serious understatement.

We had other family activities throughout the weekend. Saturday night arrangements were made for the kids so that the adults could go out for dinner. We went to a cooking-school restaurant. The 4 chef instructors compiled all the recipes and ingredients, and we guests were instructed on how to prepare a gourmet dinner. The theme was Tuscany, and it was SO GOOD! We were also given the recipes to take home and use at our own pleasure, and I can’t wait to have a semi-repeat of the evening by teaching the kids to cook a couple of the dishes we had! I can’t decide which of the dishes was my favorite, but I’m leaning heavily towards the Gnocchi made with semolina, parmesan and goat cheese.

OK, now I’ve made myself hungry. I’m off to find a snack, but will try to get back here in the next day or two to add more of the weekend happenings.
