I read something interesting the other day about growing tomatoes. I should explain first that I’ve always enjoyed growing, or rather trying to grow tomatoes. I do fine with pear tomatoes, but for anything larger I always end up with blossom end rot on each and every ‘mater I try to grow.
The tidbit I read involves placing a couple TUMS in the hole before putting the plant into it. That takes care of the calcium requirement.
Another tidbit I read involves a 2 liter bottle with holes drilled into it buried next to any plant or tree, and watering the plant or tree through the submerged bottle. I may give this a test drive this year also.
I also discovered that my trusty watering can badly needs to be replaced. My watering can is stall able to be used if I use the 2 liter bottle watering method, but I need a new watering can with an intact sprinkling head to water several things in my yard. With Mother’s Day on Sunday, I’m going to start dropping heavy hints (pointing to it and stating “I want that” every time I go to the store) that a new watering can would be a good Mother’s Day gift.
Admittedly I already bought myself a book that I’m going to have one of the kids wrap and give me on Sunday, but a watering can or other gardening objects (or light kitchen appliances) are always good gifts for me.
OK, I need to go water now. Bye!
