If It Seems Too Good To Be True...
Tue Apr 15 2008

It undoubtedly is.

I was paying bills today, as I always do on the first and fifteenth, when I opened the gas bill and noticed something amiss.

The bill was for eight dollars.

While this sounds wonderful, I was immediately concerned. January’s bill was just a smidgen over $100, February was just a smidgen under $100, March was $24 and now April was $8.

I thought we were lucky in March as we had shut off the fireplace, and it was warming up so the furnace had been turned down a bit. But this bill was just unbelievable.

So I called the gas company, and it seems my 3 year old gas meter is broken. Someone will be out Monday to fix it, and our next bill will reflect the adjusted charges (which will be averaged from the past three years bills from those months).

Boy, I can’t wait for that bill.

I don't know what that is.

But it does seem worrisome dunnit?

How about taking one to your local nursery?

    They might know right off.

    Could be a beetle grub?

    Or flying insect?

Don't know for sure, its just guesswork, as you can probably tell!

It looks almost like a European Chafer Beetle but this would be a really weird time of year to see an adult (they should be in the grub stage now). Is there a university co-operative extension you can take the little bugger to for proper identification?

I find those in my soil every year. I believe they are some type of beetle. I don't believe they have ever been a problem, but if you find out otherwise would you let me know?
