Thoughts of Gardening
Tue Mar 04 2008

I happened to browse through the garden section of my local store the other day, and saw the most beautiful berry bushes I’ve seen in ages. I’m considering taking my two existing raised beds and planting berries in them, and then convincing Hubby that we need to put up another raised bed or two for veggies.

Since starting on this train of thought, I’ve been having berry dreams. Raspberries (red, gold and black), Marionberries, Boysenberries, Blueberries, and Currants dance through my dreams. I wish I could find Tayberry and Loganberry bushes, but no luck so far.

Strangely, I have no desire to grow Strawberries, except as a ground cover when I expand by other garden areas in the back yard.

OK, now I need to go look through all the catalogs I’ve received recently to get more ideas! I just might have to start considering places for fruit trees!

The only references I could find for Tayberry, Loganberry, or current bushes for sale was in the UK. I am a HUGE fan of all three and there's a brilliant little bakery in Dingle Town, Ireland, that sells the BEST tarts made from all three. *sigh* I need to go back just for the food

I used to have quite a stand of raspberries in my back yard up north. I grew 'Willamette' variety.

They were real troopers. Hardy and prolific.

I'm not familiar with Tayberry bushes. What's the fruit like?

I like berries of all kinds, but not the strawberries being produced nowadays. I like the little, sweet berries of years ago that tasted like strawberries.
