Monday Morning Blues
Mon Nov 05 2007

What a way to start the morning.

If I don’t make sure the kids get their meds first thing in the morning, things can get… interesting. The kids start out happy and bouncy, but when the hyper behavior feeds off each other it gets out of hand and ALWAYS ends in the kids being mad at each other and on the verge of coming to blows. Nothing I do can prevent this. When they are hyper they gravitate towards each other, and even locked doors don’t keep them apart; they always find a way to get to each other.

As my brother would say, it always ends in tears…

So the kids are medicated now, and I’ve found a way to get them away from each other until the meds kick in and they can behave civil towards each other while in the same room. Believe me when I say them being able to get along is MUCH more conducive towards successful lessons.

I suppose I can wander over to find breakfast while I’m waiting for their meds to kick in.

There ought to be a way to get their meds into them as they're waking up. Something like the way insulin pumps work?

How true. I'm a teacher aide and when I see foggy-headed teachers in the classroom, I cringe. I wish there was a constant supply of free caffeine in the form of coffee or diet colas for the teachers in every room (hidden from the students of course) :)

Maybe you need a pre-awakening infusion of caffeine while the boys get their meds. For you, caffeine is a medication, right? right.

Yeah, students do tend to get confused when the teacher isn't clear. Yup.
