Galloping Gertie Reborn!
Mon Jan 08 2007

She's back, and this time in the form of a dishwasher.

Our dishwasher, a Whirlpool Gold Quiet Partner III, isn't. Quiet that is. It is so loud we can hear it upstairs with all the doors closed. So, I called Sears and had someone come out to look at it. That was when I found out it was no longer under warranty. Evidently something was sent to me last year to renew the warranty on it, but I don't remember ever seeing any such animal.

Well, the repair guy got here today, and pronounced the motor as being hosed. OK, maybe not "hosed", his exact words were that one of the bearings was shot and it needs a new motor. He put the motor on order, and it will arrive here at the house sometime in the next couple weeks, and he will be back out on the 23rd to replace the motor.

With my Sears employee discount (10% off parts & 3% off labor) it put me back just over $330. SHEESH!!! For that amount I can buy a new freaking dishwasher! Particularly now that they are on sale!

Grumble-grumble.

I actually considered just replacing it outright, but I really like it, and to replace it with another stainless so it matches the rest of the appliances is a bit more than the cost to fix it. Besides, it's less than 2 years old and I don't feel right about just outright replacing something that is practically new.

Grumble-grumble.

Our Freezer ice maker is also having problems, and we were going to have someone come out to take a look at it, but I cancelled that appointment for now as we just can't afford it with what the dishwasher is costing us and what paying for my other two classes this week will cost us.

Note to self, research all other appliance warranty information to be sure nothing else has lapsed!!!

Good call not replacing it, I replaced my dishwasher a few months back along with all the other whiteware and now really wish I hadn't. Its still under warrenty and all but "it just doesnt do as good a job as my old one" doesnt get you very far! Always a pain when something needs repairs but good one you for going with the fixit. Too many people these days see EVERYTHING as 'disposable'.

It's TWO YEARS old, and already needs parts replacement? What happened to "built to last"? That's a lot of money to put out on repairs on something practically brand new!

    We love our dishwashers....

    A most lovely appliance.

I hope yours is humming along smoothly and quietly very soon.

Grumble away. The motor should have lasted a LOT longer!
