Change of Scenery
Fri Dec 01 2006

I felt the need for a change of scenery, and this is what I had on hand. Had I been more patient this afternoon I would have gone looking for something that more suited my current mood, but it’s been an impatient afternoon.

Paying bills tends to do that to me.

We’re wrapping the term up at school. We’ve got two weeks left, and I feel like I need to find a way to create extra hours during the day to get everything completed. I’m only working less than 30 hours a week (in most cases less than 22 hours a week) but I’m finding that I need to improve my time management skills to keep up on school work. This alone has me dreading next term when I’ll be juggling 4 classes and work. I have confidence I’ll find a way to do it. It may take a case of Maalox a day and more caffeine than any normal human should consume in a day, but I’ll find a way to do it.

We had an exciting day in the life of Allimom on Wednesday. Hubby has been experiencing intermittent chest pain for the last 3 or so weeks, so he tried to make a doc appointment for it. They heard the words “chest pain” and told him to go to the ER. It was several days between when he tried to make the appointment and when we were actually able to get into there due to snow and ice, but we did finally make it. The folks at the ER had all kinds of tubes and sensors attached to him, while we rolled our eyes at their precautions. I suppose I don’t blame them, we knew it most likely wasn’t something serious, but “chest pain” is a medical buzz word (or would that be buzz phrase?) that has people hopping around when they hear them. After a few hours, a couple normal EKG’s, several normal blood tests and two x-rays that were normal, and when nothing manifested itself, they let us go home telling Hubby that they thought maybe he had a mild bout of pleurisy. At his follow up appointment with his normal doc today, he was told that it wasn’t his heart, but (in the doc’s words) Most Likely Esophageal Reflux.

They don’t know that this is what it is, but at this point, without Hubby having any symptoms at this time it was their best guess (he does have a family history of esophageal reflux disease, so I’m guessing they grabbed that diagnosis until proven wrong). He has some meds on hand for that and we will see what happens with that.

I can’t believe it’s December already. I’m still not ready for September, but I guess I’d better find a way to get myself ready for Christmas. I suspect I’ll have more of a Christmas spirit about me after school is done in two weeks.

You have three boys. They can cook and clean and do laundry. Take some pressure off yourself. If you're taking 4 classes next term and working besides, you're up the creek if they don't take some of the load.

When I went back to school full time (with practicums and internships) and working part time, my daughter took over the household. That year she did Thanksgiving, and a great job she did of it! I couldn't have done it without her. She was 15 and 16 at the time.

Glad it wasn't Hubby's heart. Maybe he's under stress too?

    Shalom

Yeah, chest pain is most definitely a bell ringer. The difference being in our office is I would have told him to come in straight away (where he could have sat and waited two hours to be seen but that's another story altogether). I'm really glad he's okay.
