No More Denial
Mon May 01 2006

I've been doing my best to stay in a state of denial, but I can't any longer. For those who also read PinkSpiritLady's diary, this is no surprise to you.

MIL was hospitalized about 3 weeks ago with some intestinal problems. Things have been a rollercoaster while she has been in the hospital between thinking she needed surgery to finding out she didn't, then discovering that she is now completely unable to eat on her own. The docs wanted to put in a feeding tube, which she has refused. Yesterday she was taken off all IV and other nutritional support and she will be returned to the nursing home today.

Without being able to eat, the family now feels like we are on a death watch with her.

Hubby is away at a school, and depending on what happens today will likely be flying home in the next day or two so he can see his Mom while she is still coherent. Her sister will be flying in this weekend to see her and we are hoping she holds on until then.

Knowing various cases like this have lasted from a couple days to a few weeks, we don’t know what is in store for the immediate future, but we do know it will be emotional.

We are all hoping that something happens so for some unexplained reason once she gets back “home” to the nursing home she is able to eat better than she was able to do in the hospital. With only being able to take in approximately 10% of what she should be eating, we don’t know if or what the upcoming days will hold for us.

Prayers and positive thoughts are appreciated from anyone so inclined to give them.
