Another Blast From the Past
Fri Apr 14 2006

OK, now that I’ve picked my jaw up off the floor I can write this down.

After high school, I went to a college in California. I made a lot of friends there, girls for the most part. While I met several gentlemen (in many cases I use that term loosely), but really only became friends with one young man. His name was Jeff, and he was studying to be a minister. He used to joke that since his middle name was Christian, he was going to take that as his name so he could be “Pastor Christian”.

We flirted outrageously with each other, and went on a date or two, but mostly I counted him as a good friend. I last saw him in January 1984, and spoke to him once or twice in the few years that followed that. After that, I lost track of him and figured he was in some town as a Pastor in a small church.

Out of the blue clear sky (OK, a Forrest Gumpism on my part with that phrase) he called today. Somehow he managed to track me down and got in touch. We had a great time getting caught up with each other. We’ve had many similarities in our lives since I last spoke with him. He now has two beautiful daughters and is living his American Dream in Southern California.

The strangest thing about this, I was thinking about him a couple days ago. I had wondered if he had followed his dream in becoming Pastor Christian, or if he had taken some other path. I even went to the website for the college we were at to see if maybe he was still linked with it somehow. I don’t know why I would have thought that, but in my mind he will probably always be the young man I knew back then.

I Hope This Isn't a Jinx

Remember way back when I was taking calculus? Remember how much I HATED it? We're doing a chapter now that so far seems to be nothing but calculus.
Surprisingly, (this is the part I’m afraid I will be jinxing myself with, are you ready for this?) IT'S FUN!!

You read that correctly, I’m having a BLAST doing my homework today! Admittedly I’ve only done 13 of the 22 assigned problems, but this is fun!

I don’t know if it is fun because I know how to do it and haven’t been fighting with these problems in the same way I fought with the problems from the first three chapters, but (call the record books, I may never say this again) I’m having fun doing vector calculus!

I think I should go take my temperature now. At the very least, go to bed. There is a chance I’m delirious.

Isn't it intersting that we get those blasts from the past usually on the heels of thinking of that person? There might be something to the 'collective conscious' thing after all.

I always had fun in Math classes also. I think because once I got up to Algebra in high school, it was about the only thing that made sense to me anymore!
