Winding Down
Tue Sep 06 2005

Today is Hubby's first day back at work after having a few weeks off for vacation.  It sure is quiet around here without him puttering about!  We didn't get all the tasks done we wanted to while he was home, but we definitely had some good family time.

We were going to paint part of the front of the house we feel looks unfinished, but are having a problem matching the color.  We keep hoping that there will be another blue house going up in the new construction area so we can acquire a scrap of the siding to take to the paint store and have matched.  We've been out of luck so far, but we check back daily and are bound to come across one eventually!

We also wanted to get the garage floor painted.  We even got the paint kit for doing that, but had to abandon the project after reading the directions.  The concrete has to be completely cured before we can use the paint, and we are still getting moist areas under solid objects sitting on the floor for a couple hours.  We plan to run a heater we have out in the garage all winter, and hope that takes care of any moisture left in the concrete.  We will then tackle the floor next spring.

We did get the walls and ceiling painted, and the den moved up into our bedroom.  What used to be the den downstairs now has a few chairs, tables and bookshelves in it for a reading (or whatever) area.  I now need to find some drawers or something to clean up the bookshelves and get all the software, Hubby’s various manuals and my school text books off of them so they aren’t quite so crammed as they are now.

It’s safe to say that we have exceeded the maximum capacity of these two bookshelves!

The kids are all out taking advantage of the last day of summer vacation.  #1 and #3 are over with the kids across the street having a Monopoly marathon, #2 has opted to take the movies back to Hollywood Video and stop at the store next to it for a snack he knows I will not buy for him (to maximize his sugar intake for the day).  I'm contemplating making applesauce between loads of laundry.

Or maybe I'll just work on the blanket I'm crocheting instead and save the applesauce for when the kids are back at school tomorrow.

That option does have its merits!

My neighbor asked her son if he was all excited about going back to school. He replied, "Mom! the only school day to get excited about is the LAST day of school."
