I did enjoy geeking with computer stuff. I did enjoy Penn & Teller and the Tournament of Kings. I hated the casinos.
As anyone who has been to Vegas knows, you can't go anywhere in Vegas without walking through at least part of a casino, or rows and rows of the one armed bandits. The cigarette smoke, flashing lights and noise resulted in a headache from almost the moment I walked into the casino areas until well after I had left them. I should also note that I don’t like to gamble. Oh, I will buy the occasional lottery here and there, usually one or two every year or so. I just can’t get into gambling other than that. I’m able to do the math. I see the futility of thinking you can go to a casino and actually win money.
Oh sure, there are the occasional big winners. But the odds are never in favor of the person doing the gambling. Do you really think the mob would keep these establishments open if they made money for anyone but themselves?
Don’t get me wrong, I did enjoy myself. I didn’t get to see everything I wanted to, but I saw a lot. We enjoyed lunch one of the days at the Hard Rock Café. We enjoyed a dinner with no silverware when we popped down to the Excalibur and went to go see the Tournament of Kings. We enjoyed a ludicrously expensive dinner over at the Rio the night we went to see Penn & Teller. We almost enjoyed going on the roller coaster at New York New York until high winds shut it down (right before we got onto the coaster too … bummer). We thoroughly enjoyed sex without any interruptions from the kids (a first in about 5 years), but that goes without saying whenever any parents take a vacation without the kids.
I do wish I had been down there for a couple more days as there were some things I wish I had been in position to see. I would have liked to see the show with the pirates at Treasure Island. We walked through the Venetian the first night I was there, but I would have liked a gondola ride. I wanted to see the water shows at the Bellagio, and walk through it after having it recommended to me by a few different people, but there just wasn’t time to get it in.
I will say, if I ever win a lottery, or somehow come into copious amounts of money and decide to go back to Vegas, I would probably stay at someplace other than Caesars Palace. Don’t get me wrong, it was an OK place. I just didn’t care for it. I would prefer the Luxor, Excalibur, New York New York or the Mirage from what I saw of them. A couple others looked promising, but I didn’t see anything of them so I can’t say one way or the other, although I did hear that Mandalay Bay had a wave pool, so I would like to check them out if we ever went back.
Actually, now that I think about it, we wouldn’t even go to Vegas. We would probably go to Disney World instead. Problem solved!
