Musings About Dogs
Mon May 09 2005

So, Hubby and I have been doing the talking about our next dog. What do we want, when do we want it and so forth.

As I've said before, the only thing we've isolated is that we want something smaller than Indigo. With her being a Great Dane, the list of dogs meeting that parameter is rather large. So we amended it to, we want a dog a LOT smaller than Indigo. Not necessarily a toy breed (which we refer to as hors d'oeuvres), but something much smaller.

It would also be nice to have a breed that is friendly to those who suffer from allergies. I have come up with a few different breeds for us to consider. Among those breeds is one called a PBGV, or Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen.

What has most attracted me to them is a picture of PBGV pups that at first I thought were Beagles.

Now, let me state that for no particular reason, other than I've known a few I didn't care for, I don't like Beagles. I have nothing against them, like I said, I have known a few that I really didn't like. The reasons for this range from the fact that the ones I've known were not house broken, no matter how hard the owners tried to house break them, and they were not the brightest bulbs in the dog breed string. I realize this isn't necessarily true for all Beagles.

OK, back to my original line of thought. I don't like them, but the rest of the family does. Hubby and the boys like beagles and would like to have one. I don't like them, but here is this dog, that as a pup, look a lot like Beagles.

As adults they develop into this wacky haired looking scruffy dogs, cuddly and adorable.

I haven't made up my mind, I'm also still drawn to the Cairn & Norwich terriers and Basenji's.

Maybe a stuffed dog will do until we make a final decision.
