The kids have spring break this week, and we are going through the typical "I'm bored" routine that we occasionally hit during school breaks.

#2 has found a solution for his boredom. He unpacked his trumpet and has started playing again. He disappears into his room a few times a day for various spans of time, opens up his music books and plays whatever he opens the page to.

Right now it is Silent Night. Yesterday was Star Wars.

He is rusty, but I can hear a definite improvement each day as he gets back into the groove of playing. His lips need to get back into playing shape, but if he keeps this up they will be toned back up soon.

Maybe I should break out the "How to play the ______" (fill in the blank for any of the several instruments and hot-to video tapes we have around the house) for #1 and #3 to go through. I think I know where the clarinet and flute are, and if I hit garage sales and thrift shops this week I might be able to find a guitar to replace the one that died about a year ago (it fell victim to being under a blanket that the boys rolled across while wrestling last summer). I can’t remember if I ever got the tape for the violin. All of our instruments were picked up at garage sales, or from friends who were selling an old instrument for cheap. We have 6 instruments, and all told I don’t think we paid more than $125 for the instruments and the instructional tapes we have.

Don’t you just LOVE garage sales?
