Connecting With Family and School Thoughts
Sun Feb 27 2005

What a week it’s been! Between my own school work and working with/keeping on the kids with theirs the time has just flown by!

Other than school this week there has been some other items of interest. Out of the blue the other day I was contacted by a friend I hadn’t heard of since about the time Hubby and I were married 16 years ago. His name is Chris and we had been in Drum Corps together. I dated him briefly, and he, Hubby, myself and a couple others had been good friends for the duration of our time together in Corps. It was great catching up with him.

I also had a phone call from one of my cousins this week. This is a cousin from my natural dad’s family. I spent a weekend with he and his wife’s family a little more than 10 years ago in Louisiana, and he had come to my wedding all those years ago. He was in town for a conference so we met up with him today and got caught up. My boys got a chance to meet someone from that part of my family, and we all had a wonderful time. We wandered around Seattle just talking and catching up while eyeing the sights. This cousin is about a year older than I, and got married at about the same time as I did. We both have three boys, and I have to chuckle that two of our boys are named the same, and the third for both of us are virtually identical with only two letters different in the names.

I do a lot of thinking about this side of my family. After my mom re-married we pretty much lost contact with most of them. My natural dad was one of 10 kids, and I’ve got dozens (quite possibly more like hundreds) of cousins from that branch. I only know a handful of these cousins. I have met several of them once or twice, and I now only really keep in contact with two uncles and their wives as well as this cousin I spent the day with today. I would like to get to know more of them better, but they are scattered to the four corners of the earth, and I’m fairly sure that they don’t even know where each other are. I have a general idea of the whereabouts of several of them, but even that number is a fraction of the numbers of them that are out there that I don’t even know about.

Ah well, maybe some day.

I’ve got my final coming up on Thursday. I’m starting to get stressed about it as I’m not exactly sure when I’m going to find enough time to study for it. I’m hoping to disappear to the library for a few hours tomorrow to work on that. I’ve also got 3 and a half projects to finish up and get turned in. One of these three has me pulling my hair out. The code appears to be correct, but the program isn’t doing what it is supposed to do. This is something else I’m hoping to get to work on for a while tomorrow, but I suspect it will have to wait until Monday while the kids are at school if I want to have the peace and quiet I need to puzzle it out!

I have a cousin like that in Missouri.. we hardly ever talk, but when we do, watch out and don't get in the way. It's like we were only seperated five minutes ago but have a lifetime to catch up on. Very comfortable together, he's the brother that I never had.

And if that weren't enough on your plate, there's the moving preparation.

Do you have time to get excited?
