Gardening On My Mind
Sat Feb 19 2005

We have had amazing weather lately, which has had my mind turning towards my garden. I’m going to be starting several seeds in the next week or so, and am anticipating transplant time in the new house.

Today #1 and I spent the day digging up and potting all the plants I want to take with us. I now have a car port half full of potted plants anxiously waiting their new home. I also took a trip to the store today to check out what veggie seeds I wanted to get. I ended up getting about three times as many as I had planned as all the seeds were 50% off. Don’t you just love it when you find sales like that unexpectedly?

We purchased a landscaping plan with the house, so the entire yard will be landscaped for us. They will be putting in two or three small trees in the front as well as some shrubs, I’m not sure what will be going in the back other than the lawn and bark. Most of the bark will be un-done as I am having Hubby put in raised planters along the perimeter of the yard for my garden. I’m looking forward to not having to bend over as much when I tend my veggies. While we will be getting a few inches of top soil brought in with the landscaping, everything under it is almost solid rock. I am going to want some fairly deep raised beds so what I put in can have a better chance at establishing their roots.

I’ve also got my two mock oranges that I need to decide where to put in. I’ve got one Philadelphus hybrid Innocence, and one Philadelphus Virginal. They are both already starting to leaf out, and I’m concerned that with the weather we have been having lately that they will be blooming soon. With that in mind, I’m hoping the weather behaves itself and we don’t get a freak cold snap and I lose both of them.

I'm also quivering in anticipation of where I'm going to put all of my clematis, where to hang my upside-down tomatoes, where to put my vigna caracalla, buying and finding a place for a couple lilacs, and whether or not I want to wait a year or two to see if I have a good place for wisteria, or just jump in and find a place for it.

I’m not excited… really.

OK, I am.

I've got pictures of the house from our visit today, but I haven't gotten them out of the camera yet. I'll save that for tomorrow.

17 days!!!

When you are ready for lilacs drive down to Woodland. There is a lilac garden there that is wonderful. Go when they are in bloom so you can compare varieties. We went to buy one and came home with six different varieties. LOL

You should wait and buy your Lilac plants from the Lilac Garden in Woodland. They sell them durring the planting time. If you check their web site it should give a time when they are available. You can get some that are already well established. Being from our state will help them transfer to your garden better. I LOVE going to the Lilac Garden durring their Lilac Festival.

    I am just drooling!!

There's not a whole lot to be done with potted plants on the patio, and I've pretty much reached the saturation point.

Ah well. I'll enjoy your pix.
