Cool!

I received a letter from the Community College I've been attending. It seems I've met all the requirements for an Associate in Arts and Sciences Degree, and they will be mailing out my diploma sometime around December 10.

Cool! News like this definitely makes my day!

Now to keep picking away at my 4 year degree...

I'm not quite, but almost resigned to the fact that I may have to complete this degree one class at a time. It seems every time I try to take on a heavier class load, something comes up either with the kids, or with Hubby going TDY and my not being able to leave the kids home for the duration of time I need to be in class. It will take FOREVER to do it that way, but if that is what is required in order for me to be here for my kids as well as take classes, I'll just have to do it that way. Including the class I'm taking right now, there are about 18 classes left for me to take (subject to change as the school is re-vamping the Computer Science program). That is 18 terms, with 5 terms being offered per year that puts me graduating in roughly March of 2008. Boy does that seem like a LOOOOOOOOOOOOONG ways away!

If I follow that schedule, I'll be graduation at about the same time the twins (hopefully) graduate from high school. Wow, I will be entering the work force just in time to pay for their college! If I'm able to do it like I hope I can, I won't have to take out any loans for my schooling. That will be nice as we are already paying off Hubby's loans, and I shudder to imagine paying off his and my loans at the same time we are trying to pay for the twins to be in school. Although, every chance I get I remind them that if they enlist in the Air Force (we won't encourage other branches of the service), they get 100% tuition paid, so they will in essence be paid to go to school. Being paid for working for Uncle Sam, and having Uncle Sam pay for school and books, definitely a sweet deal to take advantage of! For 4 years of service, they can complete the first half (or more) of a degree, then get out and use the GI Bill to pay for the rest of school.

I kick myself in the head (which isn't as easy as it sounds) for not taking better advantage of the educational benefits while I was active duty. I'm being taken care of by the GI Bill now, but I should have done more while still active.
