They've GOT to be kidding!
Mon Nov 15 2004

The Lion King is coming to town, and I thought it would be a neat idea to see if we could afford to take the kids to it.

I started looking around at dates, times and prices, and was HORRIFIED at what I found. If there were 5 seats left available in the cheap seats, it would cost us $305. There aren't though, and the only 5 seats located together on the only date we would be able to get there, would run us $625. SIX HUNDRED AND TWENTY FIVE DOLLARS for a family of 5 to go see The Lion King? Are they KIDDING?????

I would like to meet the family that could afford this. Oh sure, Bill & Melinda Gates and their kids. I'm talking NORMAL families.

I guess entertainment of this calibur was not intended for people and families not members of the upper crusts of society.

I know it is insane to go do anything entertaining anymore. I wanted to take Ethan to see Monsters Inc. on ice. They ticket price was $60.50 for both of us to go sit for 1-1/2 hours in the cheap nosebleed section, not to mention the overpriced crap that they want you to buy as a souvienier. Crazy....you know I handle the tickets for our preferred seating to the Rose Garden, the most costly one I have seen so far was $305.00 per ticket. I cant remember which artist, but it was a big name singer, old school. Jimmy Buffet was like $150 per ticket. Entertainment isnt entertainment when you have to pay a months salery for 2 hours of singing. Frankly I'll buy the CD, but concerts and sporting events are a no-go for me. Our Blazer tickets in the VIP section are something like $130 per seat per game. NUTSO for a BAD team!

I'm exhausted. I don't suppose there's ever going to be a time in the next 10 years or so when you write that "Today was a totally boring day."

So what will you be doing in 2008 if you haven't taken the courses as you're able to squeeze them in? You'll still be 4 years older no matter what you do.

    Enjoy while you can!

Congrats on the degree. Three years to get to the next level sounds long, but it really is not too bad. A good friend of mine took darn near twenty years to complete hers while she raised her family.

RYQ: I just pour it in a box with a lid and then cut it like a big cake. You kind of want it to cool down as slow as possible, because the lye is still working with the fats. It creates heat that you want to keep in, and the mass of the whole batch helps maintain that. It's 8 at night and I just slipped my hand under the blankets I have over the box, and it's toasty in there!
Griffin is laying on top of the pile! Smart Cat!

One of my good friends in school is an army boy and the government will only pay for 3 years of his schooling. Fortunatly the program we are in is a 3 year program to get your degree. I go in 8 week terms year round and go to school twice a week at night for like 6 hours of class time a night total. Maybe they have something like that there where you are. I only do two classes at a time and am considered a full time student.

Anyhow, I thought about going to see the lion king too but saw the prices when it got where I was at the time and said forget it. If they're going to do a travelling show they shoudl at least price it so that real people can go to it.

Do you get a refund on some of your money for your van since it's taking so long to get finished?

I got my degree piecemeal like you are doing..
It isn't easy.. I got the first BA while my kids were little and then went back when they were older.
    Eleven is really eleventeen... :)
At least all my kids and grands say so..
Oh just what you need to hear.. It does begin at 11.. all those hormone changes and stuff. but I think more so in girls than boys.
You have a good plan going .. enjoy the ribs
    Happy Birthday to #3..
