What a wonder it is, living in a country where virtually anyone can run for president. While for the most part we have highly qualified people enter the race, every now and again there is a candidate that raises an eyebrow or two. OK, frequently there is more than one that raises eyebrows, but I’m referring in particular to one little known candidate from this years race, Peace & Freedom Party candidate Leonard Peltier.
The challenges this gentleman (never having actually met him, I’m giving him the benefit of doubt) must have faced, waging his campaign from a Federal Prison. For those not familiar with him, Mr. Peltier was imprisoned in the 1970’s for the murder of 2 FBI agents on a reservation in South Dakota. His protestations of innocence and claims that he is actually a political prisoner notwithstanding, his crowning achievement thus far has been his defeat of Ralph Nader at the PFP Presidential Nominating Convention this past summer.
I wonder how many votes he will receive? Of course he isn't on the ballot in my state, but I suppose if one were so inclined they could write him in.
Ain’t America great?
