#2 has been told that he has to bring me a handwritten note from the two teachers whose classes he needs to improve his grade in before he can go golfing again.
#1 is another story. He is failing half of his classes. He has lost his TV, stereo and everything but his alarm clock until he brings me notes from his teachers indicating that the grades in question have been brought up to acceptable levels.
While I’m not asking that the boys get straight A’s (although I encourage them to try to do so), Hubby and I do require that they maintain a minimum GPA, and anything below that is cause for them to lose privileges.
Today was also the day for #3’s school conference. Like #2, all but two of his grades are fantastic. We spoke with his teacher about what he can do to raise those grades. It seems one thing that will improve the grade significantly is a project that is due tomorrow that we did not hear about until today. This is a book project, in which the kids had to choose a book, read it, develop a vocabulary list from it, write a critique, and do a “project” of their choice for it. This assignment was given out 5 weeks ago, is due tomorrow, and #3 is just now starting on all he needs to do. He has already read it, so we are just doing the rest of it. He received permission to turn it in on Monday, so I have a feeling that this weekend will be filled with busy work for him to get everything done.
Right now #3 is making a poster that is divided into a few sections. He is drawing a map on one section of the territory the story takes place in (fictional world), he is drawing a larger version of the book cover for another section, and the final section will be a recap of the story. He started on this about 3 hours ago, and is about 1/3 of the way finished. It’s amazing what he can accomplish when he puts his mind to it… and when I tell him he can’t have any pumpkin pie until he finishes a certain amount.
