Promotional Disadvantages
Tue Oct 05 2004

While Hubby is active duty, he is in the Air National Guard rather than active in the Air Force. While the Air Guard does come under the Air Force, the big difference is where the paycheck comes from, and where all the paperwork is done.

The reason I am on this subject is related to the paperwork.

Hubby was eligible for promotion the first of September. Had he been straight Air Force, the likelihood of his promotion coming through on time would be great. However, he is in the Air National Guard, and subject to over-worked personnel in understaffed offices who have his (and a few hundred other military members) promotion paperwork lost in a maze of bureaucratic paper trails and red tape.

The current rumor mill has the promotion coming through possibly in January. The one possible good aspect of this is the additional rumor that has back pay coming with that promotion going back to the actual date the rank should have taken effect.

That will be a very nice way to start the year. This is a pretty significant promotion we will be looking at!

Now I just need to keep my fingers crossed that it doesn't get pushed back any further.
