Yesterday at school #3 was having a bad day. Some other kids were picking on him, and after repeatedly asking them to stop (and them being kids not stopping) he threatened that if they didn’t stop he would kill them.

Oh boy.

Now, I should note here that I don’t think he would actually do this. I don’t believe #3 is capable of actually taking the action he threatened, but I now am looking at the whole threat in the schools from the other side of things.

While I believe this about my child, other people do not know him like I do. They don’t know whether the threat should be taken seriously or not. People who do know #3 would immediately offer the opinion that this child is not capable of such actions.

Now, think back to Columbine and other recent school tragedies. How many family members of the aggressors said and felt the same way? Think back to acts of aggression outside of schools. How many neighbors and families of serial killers comment that “he was such a nice guy… quiet guy… friendly… (insert any other positive adjective here) kind of guy.

So, regarding what happened at school yesterday, do I believe #3 is capable of such actions? No. But what if I’m wrong?

I don't suppose anyone thought to question the kids who were teasing him?? Was anyone the least bit curious as to what brought all this on?

I understand that with all the violence, schools, parents, police, all, must take note of any threat. But I really think this handling was waaaayyy one-sided.

Someone really ought to talk to the tormenters!!

    Shalom

oh boy, that is a headache. im wondering, is there anybody you can complain to i.e. principal and staff etc at the school as to the dealings with your son?

i understand they need to take precautions, but to go that far??

I don't understand why the police were called because of what your son said, yet when another child threatened to bring a gun to school, none of this type of reaction from the school seemed to take place. I feel like yelling at someone myself!

You know... I'm 24 years old, and I yelled at a friend the other day because he wouldn't quit doing this obnoxious thing. I said, and I quote, "If you don't quit poking me with that damn pencil I am going to use it to skewer your heart." Hrm.. I didn't get in trouble.
