Hullo, A number of people had written and alerted me to the fact that the Show Updated Diaries screen was broken, in that it was never getting past the ‘Please Wait’ message. This was because someone’s diary title had HTML special characters in it which equated to an HTML comment, and thus the rest of…
So, after migrating the enormous mess that calls itself DearDiary.net to a new host the other day it became apparent the hosting plan it was on was completely unsuitable for such a massive site. There’s over 3000 diaries registered on the new system (contrast that with around 60,000 on the legacy site though!) and they…
If you’ve got friends at DearDiary who you’d like to buy a Christmas present for, check out the Plus Account Gift Voucher The system won’t presently tell the recipient of your generosity (i.e. its an anonymous system at present) but of course there’s nothing stopping you from telling them who it’s a from. I may…
I’ve made some tweaks to the database, and Matt made some tweaks to how the hits system works now, so that in theory, the system should be able to work a bit better for the people that deserve it, ie you guys reading this! Its a temporary step. The server is overloaded and we’re running…
Hi all, Yeah, of course, moving a server its gonna break… Back to the drawing board! I am looking into whats causing the extended crashes (particularly since Windows is supposed to restart it all!) and hope to have something sensible to report later today. Steve
This evening (my evening, so from about 6 o’clock GMT) the site will undergo some changes at a low level which may result in intermittent, brief interruptions to service while things settle down. Apologies and I’ll try to keep it to a minimum. DearDiary itself will move to a new IP address and will no…
I appreciate your work. Thank you 🙂
Test comments now…
yes, i am comforted to know you’re working at it. thanks.
🙂
No problem, Steve, a little PHP downtime and sporadic site access is worth it in the short term if it means the site works better in the long term. We appreciate all your hard work!! =)
So all the login issues and stuff is related to that? I’m used to like full on down. Like access to nothing. The partial acces thing is all confusing me.
Oh well. Have fun debugging. 🙂
We will sit on the sidelines, cheering you on admiringly! Hope your work goes quickly and without too many frustrations.
Hugs,
Ani
all seems to be working in userland. Many thanks for your hard work! much appreciated.
[PRIVATE COMMENT]
ahem…just tested…actually, Steve, the internal server error is still present 🙁 it is only appears in old diaries with millions of entries and easily gets rid of by refreshing browser…personally I don’t mind doing it, I’d think many other won’t either. as long as it is a known bug with a known resolve…I wouldn’t worry much 😉

I’m not getting anymore of those, "Skeleton diary doesn’t exist" things anymore. I don’t have the skeleton diary… nor did I really care if it existed. Just wondered why login would be going there. lol
Hope you have fun with your bugs today. 🙂 Someday this will all be automated and all you’ll have to do is sit there and watch it work for you.
