Trial and Discovery

It all started with my friend C. asking me if she might able to eco dye her notes from her classes that she prints out from the computer.

I said I didn’t know, but would give it a try.

Turns out she asked a really great question.

I tried a few and found out it works pretty well, which is amazing since the papers get simmered for two hours in a pot of water! The printed words DID get a bit eroded on some of the papers, so I had an idea. I placed a piece of paper over the printing thinking it might protect it a bit.

Turns out that it does. But it also created a lovely frame for the words.

And, because we are dealing with a stack of papers, this technique produces a ‘shadow’ page with a blank frame!

Be still my heart!

With much trepidation, I ran one of these pages through the printer, actually it was the first one you saw, and it printed pretty well. But left a few unwanted ink marks because of the irregularity of the paper running through a picky machine. But it was an acceptable result. I may need to work on that part. More experimenting!

Anyway, here are a few more results from my latest batch:

Sea Oats and Snapdragons
Snapdragon and Asters
Morning Glory Asters and Lilac leaves
Closer

It’s images like these that keep me going. Especially now that the flowers and plants are staring down the first frost which is coming. I feel the urgency of it.

Time to go foraging!
