underestimate the power of someone to completely and utterly surprise you. it doesn’t matter who they are or how long you’ve known them. you never really know people. and they can actually disappoint.
Mark Morris Dance Group concert was last night. loved it. the costumes were wonderful, the lighting was great and the music/voice so refreshing. he only uses live music. that’s one of the reason’s why i loved taking classes there…there is live music for each class. nothing compares to live…

for the concert in the park he had the Brooklyn Philharmonic and chorus. the last piece titled Gloria music by Vivaldi, was so beautiful. i gasped at times… i could feel how wonderful it must have felt to do the movements the dancers did. i may have to sign up for classes again. i miss the calm, the centeredness, the awareness of my body in space and how it moves. plus, my work schedule changed and would accommodate my taking classes better. i won’t be trying to get through a class on only a few hours sleep because i finished work that morning.
today, i’ll be going to a party at an Irish pub to say farewell to one of the doctors. wonderful doctor, fun, funny, sweet, a pleasure to work with. she’ll be missed for sure. so, i may, after all of these years of promising i’d drink a pint of Guinness, i may just have a few. 🙂

i’m trying to work out how to catch an early show of Cowboys and Aliens. i know, i know, i’m a total nerd, but i love sci-fi/fantasy and more importantly, i love Daniel Craig in those pants! he’s freakin’ gorgeous.

got hooked on Game of Thrones…Sean Bean is gorgeous…so is Russell Crowe, is there a pattern here?????????? i usually like those dark Irish guys…

ah well. wanted to hit the beach today, but it’s promising to be a gray, scattered showers kind of day. it’s currently 2:32am and i’m hoping the forecast is wrong. can’t tell right now though.

still reading:
Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving

Lady Chatterly
Jumper (crap, didn’t even finish watching)
Black Death because Sean Bean is a fox

recent downloads from iTunes:
Blood Bank EP by Bon Iver (because i’m in total love with Justin Vernon)
Seven Chinese Brothers, Talk About the Passion, Fall on Me, So. Central Rain, Laughing all by R.E.M. from Murmur and Reckoning albums
Dreams by the Cranberries (although i can’t quite get that freakin’ cruise ship imagery out of my head)

totally and completely psyched about seeing Bon Iver next month. AND, i may just crash the concert in Prospect Park, since it’s outside and they can’t keep the music from my ears even if i’m a few hundred feet away…i can just park myself on a blanket, lay there, and melt.

seriously considering the tattoo. the plan was to get it when i turned 45…i’ll soon be 46 (there are no words for how i feel about that)… but it has to be literary. has to be words..because words make up books and i love books. i love poems. i love songs. just want to make sure i pick something that has meaning for me.

ah well, it’s time to hit the sack. not tired but if i want to hit the party, i’ll be needing some sleep.

a novel by Neil Gaiman will be a six season series on hbo. Moonman, if you’re out there and still reading, i hope you know this. very very excited about this. should be great!
this africa hot weather continues. how many showers can one take to get rid of this perpetual sheen? didn’t get much sleep last night.
i don’t even want to leave the apt… but will. want to get to the gym this afternoon and run some errands, though, i did most of what needed done yesterday. didn’t go to the West Side Story sing/dance along in Prospect Park, it was just too hot to deal with driving/the subway/crowds. do plan on catching the Mark Morris Dance Group performance next week. i know it’ll be great. Isaac Mizrahi designed the costumes and Mr. Morris will be conducting one of the three pieces with the Brooklyn Philharmonic. i can’t miss this. hopefully, my bud will go as well.
one more night free before my work week begins. love the new schedule.
call me a geek but i really want to go see Cowboys and Aliens. it looks like it’d be fun. call me a late late bloomer but i only read the first 2 Harry Potter books and have seen some of the movies (never in a theatre). i need some serious catching up. i’ve added the rest of the books to my “To Read” list in my library account. i’ve also added books suggested by a co-worker. i’ve begun one book of the four he suggested.
the cats are lazing around (nothing new), so am i (too freakin hot to move)
checked on Mom to make sure she’s okay. my Mother is probably the only person on the planet that would throw a pot on the stove to cook in this weather. she only has AC upstairs and fans downstairs. her house stays pretty cool though. but still, cooking in this weather?
ps. i am so smitten with a certain someone, it is actually painful.

nothing to be done.

holy hot!

it’ll hit 93 today. tomorrow 100. unfortunately, i’m sure we’ll see lots of heatstroke at the hospital this week. i hate that. preventable, yet plenty of stupid/no common sense folk out there when it comes to their pets.

2 more nights off before i head back to work. this heat makes me very sleepy. ah, well. off to get ready to head out…

“and at once i knew, i was not magnificent…”
bon iver

i’m in love with this band’s music. completely.

busy work weekend. crazy even. but, i got through it. glad. tired. tonight, i am free for 4 nights. had plans to travel to parts up north but the weather is promising to be terribly hot and humid so those plans went kaput!

celebrate brooklyn will have a sing/dance along to West Side Story. would like to go because it promises to be silly. i could use a little silly. next week will be the dance performance by Mark Morris Dance at the park as well, only $3 donation is suggested…i think i can handle that. plus, they are previewing a new piece of work. then, it’s a party to send off one of the docs who is moving to cali. karoake fun for everyone. i’ll be seeing the Bon Iver concert in Aug. the show is now sold out. most likely because the new album is so freakin brilliant. the writing, the arrangements, just so wonderful. there is one song in particular that makes me so happy… Towers.

“from the liver sweating through your tongue”

i love
justin vernon.
just love him.

i’ve done mostly nothing the past few days. finally have a schedule that puts my days off together. 4 days off is nice. but, the heat/humidity coupled with pms has made it less than nice. i’ve been downing the ibuprofen almost every 4 hours.

still reading prayer for owen meany and started another book (visit from the goon squad) on a co-worker’s recommendation. it’s okay so far. also, found and watched online season 1 of Game of Thrones. fabulous series. season 2 should be just as good. checked out a couple of flicks from the library:
-Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief (a good flick to brush up on your Greek mythology), Marie Antoinette (absolutely horrible), Caravaggio (one of my fav of the Italian painters but the flick was too weird), Cranford- you can’t go wrong with anything that Judi Dench is in, and The Holy Girl (haven’t watched yet).

been listening to the new Bon Iver album. absolutely beautiful work.

the cats are driving me nuts. or maybe it’s just that i’m pms-ing… but yesterday afternoon, after feeding them and giving them some catnip, they were both very quiet in the other room….too quiet. so, i get up from reading my book and find both of them coated in catnip, the container on the floor and the top off. they looked like they breaded themselves.

i couldn’t get mad at them, though i wanted to. i cleaned them up, brushed up the remainder of the catnip that was all over the floor and back in the jar which i placed out of their reach.

tonight my work week begins. hope it isn’t like last weekend (crazy busy). i’ll take steady. steady is good. steady, where i can keep up.
need to hit the sack but not tired.

i’m off schedule but i’ll have to force myself to sleep or else it’ll be tough getting through the 12 hours.
