Parade, Beets, Honey

Sat. Sept 28 – Parade – We left home about 8:45 going down the qew to Giant Tiger.  There was lots of parking so I drove the girls to where they were to start the parade and drove to the end of the parade, parked and walked to the armoury.  I was one of the first ones there at 9:30.  We finally started the parade at 11:05.  W and P walked with the Highland dancers and R was on a float. Ps face was so red by the end lol, she danced most of the way.  The route is about 5 km.

I went to see mom.  She looked good, no oxygen now. We went out for supper at Bugsys and now I have the runs!  And so does Hubby.

Sunday, Sep 29 – Honey Harvest – After church we had a “graduation” lunch to celebrate the anniversary of our refugee family arriving one year ago.  Then I went home and the Goober and #2 Son were starting to harvest the honey so I got changed and B and I helped.  We used the extractor I had borrowed but the honey was really thick this year so we put it through cheese cloth and then the sieve.  We got a large pot full.  Then at 5 B, Maddy and I picked up  8 migrant workers and drove them to the church.  We made the salads using cherry tomatoes from the garden.  We used 4 boxes of spring mix lettuce from Costco, 4 peppers and 2 cucumbers and one red onion.

Monday, Sep 30 – Beets. – I went to WW. I was down another pound. 18 total. W was up 2.  Hubby and I canned pickled beets and froze cubed beets for Harvard beets.  We did 30 pounds as Superstore had them on for 10 lbs for $2.  We had some Harvard beets for supper too. Everyone liked them.  #2 Son goes back to work tomorrow.  Hubby is looking to buy a bigger boat.

Appendix, Pig Roast, 1/2 Marathon

Friday, Sept. 20 – Appendix

Hubby was in a lot of pain this morning so B took him to the clinic and I took Maddy to school.  I stopped at the clinic on the way back and it wasn’t good.  The doctor there said he should have gone to the hospital so we asked them to call an ambulance as he was feeling faint and nauseous.  #1 Son and wife and Art came while we were in the waiting room.  Then they put him on a gurney in the hallway near the triage door.

They did a cat scan.  Then when we told them he had a collapsed lung, they had to do an X-ray because when they give you anesthetic it would leak out of the lung. They can still do the surgery but they have to plug it up or something. He was on a gurney in the hallway the whole day. It was very interesting because we were by the triage and saw so many paramedics, police, crisis people, firemen. They gave one guy 5 doses of narcan.  2 came in in handcuffs, 1 lady 6 mo pregnant came in unconscious etc.   One lady had been riding her bike and her sweater caught in the brakes and she went over the handlebars.  Her face was all smashed in.  He finally got a room on the fifth floor which is the surgery floor and so once settled, we went home, stopping at Macdonalds for supper on the way.  They will call us if he gets called in for surgery.

Saturday Sep 21/ – surgery and pig roast

I went to work to try to get caught up. B messaged me at 10:30 that Hubby was going in for his surgery in 5 minutes! As there was a cancellation.  I left work at noon, went home, changed and had lunch and went to the hospital.  He got back to his room about 1:30.  B and Maddy were there too.  He could have come home after supper but we convinced him to stay overnight.  We left about 4.

We all went to the church pig roast about 5.  It was so hot at the gym, everyone moved outside to the patio after they ate. They had a good crowd, there was no food leftover!  The band was really good.  W and her girlfriends and me and Carolyn were up dancing.  It was over by 8:30.

Sunday, Sep 22 – Run for the Grapes

Got Hubby out of the hospital at 8:30. Then about 10:30 B and I went down to the finish line of the half marathon (21 km) run for the grapes.  No church today.  It took #2 Son and his friend Paul 2 hours and 52 minutes to cross the finish line.  They walked the last 5 kms or so because Paul’s calves were burning.  It was very hot out and humid.  We were waiting, waiting and getting worried because they can do it in better time than that.  But good for them for finishing!  #2 Son and his friends then decided to put one of the big windows in the new house afterwards.  Hubby and I spend the afternoon canning pears, a nice sit down job for him to do.

Monday, I picked berries, tomatoes and beans.  I made cauliflower an cheese and ham for supper.

Tuesday , Sep 24 – dentist, Hair

I had a dentist appt for a cleaning and he found one of my old crowns was loose. So the dentist looked at it, took it out, cleaned it up and cemented it back in with no freezing. Phew, that saved me $1000 if I had lost it!  Got my hair cut this afternoon and went to work for a call night to make up time off last week.

Hubby’s Birthday, Sauce + Pears

Thurs.Sep 12 – I thought I had my photo club Wednesday night on Kens Birthday so arranged to go out Thursday night instead and then discovered the meeting is next week.  We all met at Chucks Roadhouse for dinner, even Owen came.  They don’t take reservations so there was a 40 minute wait but it was nice and the food was good except Win and I ordered a chicken salad and it was just a bag of salad dumped in a bowl with other stuff thrown in. You could smell it wasn’t fresh so we sent it back and got roast beef instead.

Sat. Sept 14 –#2 Son is still trying to get his truck fixed.  He is going to put locks on the doors at his house today.  Ken just has to do the top ridge of the workshop roof and it will be done. I put a stupid comment on a newspaper site yesterday and got nasty comments back.  I worried about it all day and couldn’t sleep last night. There is no way to take it off.  So dumb. Need to keep my mouth shut.  A had surgery on Thurs on his nose for sleep apnea and J looked after the girls while he was in hospital.  Win works today and M is taking them to dance. A better not say anything about that.

I went to church on Sunday. Win and M and kids came over for supper.  M made sauce and pasta.  The girls spruced up my Fall wreath for me.  On Monday, I cleaned the house and picked berries and veggies and made 3 jars of sauce.  I cut all the grass and weeded the garden.  On Tuesday, I cleaned the kitchen and picked pears and apples.  Then I picked Maddy up from school and had a look at the new house.  It’s coming along nicely.  He hopes to pour the basement cement tomorrow.

Wed. Sept. 18 – I have today off as I work Saturday.  I pickled beets from the garden, peeled apples and sliced with the apple slicer, from the Macintosh tree and made crustless apple pie in the small slow cooker.  Also made curry chicken for supper. Hubby picked pears and had a fire to burn some. Rush out the back.  We went to Costco and got propane.  Went to photo club at night.

New Fridge and Tennis

Tues. Sept. 3 – First Day  of School – I worked on The workshop roof and #1 Son came to help him about 3 pm.  They are ready to put the tar paper and shingles up tomorrow.  I picked 4 qts of blackberries, 4 qts of beans and tomatoes and froze them.

Monday, Sep 9- Fridge, tennis – B found a really nice fridge and stove on marketplace so k and I have to go get it this morning and then get rebar for Dave so he can do the cement for the front steps tomorrow.  Owen helped ken finish the one side of the workshop roof yesterday.

I went to church yesterday and then parish council which lasted until 2.  B and I raked up all the apples and dumped them but I got stung by a wasp.  And then I discovered that my FB had been hacked!  Ugh!  I cut all the grass.  I roasted a leg of lamb with green beans from the garden for supper. Win came over too. Her and M had gone to pick up their tent trailer they bought from Phil.  #1 Son and wife had a garage sale today.

On Saturday I picked more beans and blackberries and tomatoes and froze them.  I cut beans while watching the US Open tennis with Bianca Andrescu, the Canadian from Mississauga and she beat Serena Williams!
