Now that I’ve seemingly cracked the long-wished-for code of which bus James takes to get home from school and at what time, I’m going to try to ride the same bus when I can, and maybe sit near him and start a conversation with him…
(It’s too difficult to do it at McDonald’s, where I might or might not get a shot at interacting with him, and if I do, the exchange lasts maybe a few seconds at most… due to his work pressures and being very busy…)
And not during the first bus conversation, but during maybe a subsequent one, on a day when I haven’t already eaten lunch downtown, I’m going to ask him if he likes Chinese food, and invite him to join me for lunch at Szechwan Garden, which is a short ten-minute walk from one of the bus stops. If he hesitates, I’ll offer to treat, of course. I’ll have to make the invitation appear unplanned, as if it were an impulsive, spur-of-the-moment thing. And not sounding like I’m asking him out on a “date”.
I hope he says Yes.
