On Saturday, Hub Man and I took the dogs over to the creek to let them run themselves silly. .. which is pretty easy for them to do when they are starting out silly to begin with…. We also thought we would have another go at trying to catch Mr. Beaver in action.
As we stood overlooking his extensive watery real estate, Hub Man spotted something furry making its way up the bank on the opposite side of the pond from us.
OH JOY! We finally are seeing Mr. Beaver! “Wow.” I said, “He looks bigger than I thought he would.”
We watched as he moved along the bank and I started to have doubts. Wait a minute. Wait just a fur hat minute… that animal is WAY too graceful for a beaver…
After a few minutes of frenzied debate we finally agreed…
What we were looking at was a river otter…. A big beautiful one too. If ever an animal was perfect for its environment, the otter must be it. We followed him along the pond and up the creek where he hid from us at the base of a live oak tree.
Of course, we didn’t have a camera with us, and frankly we couldn’t have gotten a very good shot anyway.
But this is what one looks like…. from in interwebs….
So the ever elusive Mr. Beaver still holds his anonymity intact.
And the dogs are still silly.
(So are you.)
I’d have to be if I couldn’t tell the difference between a beaver and an otter right off….
(I rest my case.)
