On The Wings Of A Sweet Pea Dove

The sweet peas along the fence have come into their own today.

They were a long time growing, and then whammo, the blooms are exploding all over them in the last week or so.

I like the mix of color.

Here’s a closer shot…

Today, while I was here at my computer, after cleaning house for an hour or so and doing laundry, Ben came bouncing into the room and did a little dance next to me. He seemed quite excited about something and wanted me to follow him. I could just see it on his face…. ‘Come on, come on, come on….. slow poke!!! ‘ I got up to find Fiona and Sunny in the middle of the living room eyeballing a young bird sprawled out on the carpet surrounded by stray feathers. It had one wing out that I feared was broken.

Oh dear.

I got a towel and picked it up carefully, all the while surrounded by three animals that REALLY wanted to help me take care of this situation.

I took him out and placed him in a planter on the other side of a bit of fencing and closed ‘Fiona The Mighty Hunter’ and her two trusty side kicks in the house.

After a little while, I decided to go out and see if I could get a picture of the bird to show you.

I ALMOST got one, but when I came too near, he took off and flew into the next yard. But not before I got a good look at him. A fledgling dove. I think he will be okay. No thanks to the three musketeers.

Voles and snakes and now birds. They have all been gifts of The Fiona. I wish she would take up some other hobby. I dunno, Origami or something less… violent. Though come to think of it, Ben is the only one who I ever saw actually dispatch and INGEST a wild creature. Fiona just likes to bring them in to show off.

Sigh. I had to get the vacuum back out and clean up the feathers.

Just be thankful you HAVE a vacuum missy.
