20 Dec 2002 - WORDS WORDS WORDS
|
I love words. Just take the word "word" and roll it around in your mouth. Purse the lips for the "w" but don't whistle. OK, wuh wuh wuh. Hmmm. Interesting feeling. Now, wor (sounds like were). Feels different; almost like the beginning of a smile. OK, let's finish with duh. No, just lightly. Not as in "Well, duh!" Now we have the whole word. Say it again. Again. Again.
Well, that's what happens when I'm reading and come across an interesting word. I see the shape of it, and try to shape it in my mouth. Taste it. Feel the texture of the letters against my tongue, lips, even throat.

20 Dec 2002 - Memory
|
Last night I was thinking about what I wanted to write today, had it all planned out in my head, and giggling because I was amusing myself. As I sit here at the keyboard, I haven't the faintest idea what was so funny last night. Memory for me is a sometime thing.
Some years ago I was having trouble keeping track of my keys, so I bought a nice leather key leash that fastened onto the handle of my purse. How long do you think it took me to remember to fasten the keys to the leash? I'm still working on it.
Another thing about memory is that it may be a liar. My daughter remembers things from her childhood that never happened. I would take an oath on it. But on the other hand, I clearly remember things that she absolutely denies ever happened. She even had the bad manners to suggest that I was either senile or enjoying a good joke at her expense.
Did you ever go into a room and wonder, what did I want in here? Common occurrence for me. I even have some bed linens fresh from the dryer and neatly folded and wonder why I'm standing in front of the linen closet.
I think my granddaughter wants to chat with me. My "buddies" icon is flashing and I keep getting a ding-ding.
Well, y'all have a pleasant weekend. Maybe I'll remember in the meantime what it was I intended to write about today.
