    6 Feb 2008 - Stickam Profile
Couldn't breathe to sleep with this damned cold so I've spent some time padding out my profile at Stickam. You like?
Spatzie, you have been reading my diary regularly, thank you for adding me as your friend.

    6 Feb 2008 - Worse Before Better
Woke up at about 5 a.m. with a very sore throat. Probably been snoring the inside of my throat red raw. I've told you about the decibels of my snoring when we were in Jersey didn't I? LOL. Listened in to Jim Nazium's show - Donna's Gary was there - Donna was up late and was talking on there too.

Anyway, dragged myself into work again. Feeling worse even than yesterday. At half 8 I rang the surgery for an appointment and did what the practice nurse told me to do, insist on an early appointment because of my having no spleen (nothing to fight the infection with). Got an appointment for 9.35 this morning and told my boss. She said it was OK for me to have the time off. My surgery is just literally over the road - I can be there in 5-10 minutes. Was still waiting to see the duty doctor at 5 past 10. I was called through to my own doctor who, I had been told, was unavailable today! She told me the duty doctor had gone. Explained my problem and I was prescribed the same strong extra penicillin as last time. I'm scared of this thing taking over my lungs like it did this time last year. I had to sleep sitting up and had great difficulty in breathing - it was scary. Grabbed some lemon Lemsip and lemon and honey Strepsils while waiting for my prescription to be filled. Only had to wait at the pharmacy about 5 minutes. They were faster than usual, considering there were plenty of people in. Was back in work by half 10.

The work has been OK but I'm feeling really bad. I have a tickly cough now too, on top of the blocked/runny nose and heavy head. Sore throat is raging. I just have to be patient and hope that my special blend of 8 penicillin tablets per day sorts the cold out. I've had my "no spleen" flu jab in - what? - September time? What on earth for? Doesn't stop me getting the new strains. Bah! Has to get worse before it gets better.

An early night for me tonight. Plenty of water and plenty of sleep and plenty of time will put me right. It's just horrible having to wait. At least now I know I have less of a chance of it progressing to my lungs. Fingers crossed.

I think I paid extra on that parcel for America so that it would be delivered earlier rather than later - because I was rather late posting it - and the silly recipient hasn't been to get it yet. LOL. Eventually..... if it isn't returned to me first. {g} Oh well. How do I know? There's a tracking number on the parcel and I've been watching it on its journey, online.

I need a break before I go back to work. Have had some soup and some Salt & Shake crisps. Have to wait an hour or so before another Lemsip. :(

    Later,
    Love,
    Sair xx

    6 Feb 2008 - Wonderful Radio Kenny
I've been taking a wonderful trip down memory lane. Surfing through from the Hank & Jim show's page earlier, I discovered a wonderful site, which features loads of clips from Kenny Everett. I got a brand new, expensive Bang and Olufsen centre in 1980. Gorgeous turntable and fantastic stereo FM radio. Had a special extended v-shaped aerial which picked up stereo radio, which I thought was great - especially through my huge, classy, Bang and Olufsen speakers. In 1981 I was listening to Kenny Everett every Saturday morning on Radio 2. These clips on this site are truly fab. Kenny, besides doing the sing-along-with-the-Beatles, where he played Beatles songs minus the vocal so us who knew all the words could sing along, he used to play all sorts of stuff from his own private collection. Beatles stuff I mean. Beatles interviews he'd conducted. Lots of privately owned taped stuff he'd kept. And maybe even stuff he shouldn't have had too. {Oooh, what *am* I *saying*!? Just one name.... Brian Epstein. Say no mawer! LOL} I used to record them all on my 1978 top of the range cassette deck, which really did look the business with its lit VU meters. LOL. He used play all sorts of obscure things. I remember once he got hold of a recording of Margaret Thatcher practising with a voice coach how to say, "Enough is enough". Over and over. Funny. I've probably still got that somewhere in my ceiling-high stack of cassette/CD/VT drawers here. Kenny was fired from the Beeb (BBC) for going too far once and I always wondered how long it would be before they fired him again for playing all sorts of private Beatles recordings and just too much larking about. Of course us Beatles fans in the know absolutely loved him for it. He just didn't give a shit! LOL. These clips for 1981 are very familiar to me because he played the same familiar jingles every week. One of the highlights of each programme was, for me, the weather. In those days, the weather forecast, along with the news, was reported very seriously. Not so with Kenny. He *never, ever* {as far as I know} ever told the weather forecast properly. He *always* used daft words, generalizing, making it fun. I loved him for that. In those days there were still some pretty stuffy, old-fashioned people at Radio 2 and Kenny was like a breath of fresh air for taking them on like that. I will always love him for it. A very talented and naturally funny man {like the Beatles, he was Liverpudlian too}. His shows were always a delight, always fun.... because he never let rules and staid ways ever get in the way of fun. Kenny we miss ya. Take a listen to the audio on this site and discover the fun of Kenny and why I, and the Beatles, loved him so much.

The Brilliant Kenny Everett {Hit number 2 above where it says navigation and listen to the Radio 2 clips to hear exactly what I heard back in 1981. It's a treat! :D} I wish I'd kept more audio of these shows than I did.

I haven't mentioned his telly shows. Kenny was best at Thames. Things were never quite the same when he moved over to the Beeb somehow. Some classic moments I love best - dressed as Sid Snot and after seeing him chuck up cigarettes from waist height, trying to catch them in his mouth and *always* missing, then one day.... he actually *did* catch it in his mouth. Now that was funny. Dressed as Rod Stewart with the ever expanding bum..... With Billy Connolly where Kenny opens his door to find Billy outside the door raising his voice in an aggravated tone... "Yes?!", like it was Billy who had answered the door and was being bothered. One of the outtakes of Kenny and Billy doing a scene in a men's public toilet is hilarious because Billy sees an extra out of the side of his eye and keeps corpsing all the time. I always thought that Kenny's character Cupid Stunt {think about that name for a second!} who would say everything was "In the best POSSIBLE taste"spouting off to a much younger cardboard Parky was one of Kenny's better inventions.

I REALLY miss Kenny. I'd go so far as to say I miss Kenny about as much as I miss John and George. He made me happy with his natural propensity for hilarious silliness. Died FAR too young. Cleo on Big Brother tried to describe her relationship with him and I think she really was in love with the guy. Deeply. So sad he's left us all.

Anyone who didn't experience Kenny when he was here, really missed out.

    Miss him, miss him.
