2 Feb 2008 - Work, Forgot and Hurray!
Had a talk with Dee at half 7 this morning about all the new things she needs for her trip to Germany this week. Handed in her passport and European Health Insurance Card to school this week so that's sorted. Gave her some cash to go and get what she needs. Mostly new clothes because of her growing out of her other ones. It's an expensive time when your kids get a growth spurt on and they're going on holiday and need clothes that are recommended by the teachers and you don't have them.
Set out for the bus at 8 not really knowing what times the buses are due but one came almost straight away, which was just as well because the air was freezing. On the little patch of grass I walk across to get to the bus stop, the grass was crunchy frozen and the puddles were white ice topped. I got some choc in the 4 o'clock shop and walked towards our offices. A man emerged from the building with his dog on a lead. He must have unlocked the building for us. He told me to pass a message on, which I did. I was first in at quarter past 8 and I got everything sorted, cupboard open, work out ready, logged on, coffee made before anyone else came in. The heating was off and the room was extremely cold. We sat in the cold all morning and it was very hard to type because our fingers were so cold. I did 5 hours and left at quarter past 1.
Got some more cash from Lloyds. Dee is managing to spend a lot of it... this time for spending money in Germany.
Got some more bits and bobs from M&S and a bus came straight away! I *was* lucky with buses today. The icy wind hit my face hard when I stepped off the bus. It's only about 5 minutes walk home from the bus and I don't have to sit down now. I've lost enough weight to just walk straight home without my back being too affected. When I was many stones heavier I did quite a bit of damage to my knees and sometimes when I get up at work my knees feel very stiff and I need a couple of moments to walk comfortably - a few steps.
I forgot to ask Dee to stay in. I'd arranged a parcel delivery for today. I was at work and Dee was out buying new clothes for her German exchange school trip. So we missed the re-delivery. How stupid of me. I've paid the customs tax on some stuff from America and now I'll have to re-schedule for next Saturday and ensure one of us is around here and listening out for the parcel.delivery knock on the door. Another full week to wait. This is the disadvantage of working 37 hours or more a week. I've waited a long time for this stuff to be delivered already, with it coming from abroad.
Looks like my parcel has arrived near to its destination now. Hope it gets delivered and picked up today rather than Monday or after that. Oooh! I've just had an idea! My parcel from the U.S. that I missed delivery of today - I could go and collect it from the sorting office in person on Monday. Yes. I'll do that. I arranged a holiday again for Monday with my boss today. That's a stroke of luck.
In the subject for this entry I wrote "Hurray!". Why? I've just downloaded a new version of iTunes and I can now play my CDs again right through without having it freeze after every two songs! I'm listening to Beatleg "More Masters" CD2. There's a ton of stuff I need to burn to disc and then check out. I can free loads from the hard drive now that I can check out my burned discs. What a relief. That has *really* cheered me up today. :)
Dee has gone back to town to get money. Exchanging pounds for Euros for her holiday. Tomorrow I have the unenviable task of washing all the clothes she wants to take with her and hanging them out to dry. They should be dry in time for packing. Dee and I constantly chat to one another. We are both on laptops but we yell through to one another in our different rooms. Dee often comes through to just have random chats. I've done a lot of complaining on this diary about Dee in the past but these kinds of days are few and far between nowadays as she gets older and has a more mature attitude. I want to say that we are getting on a lot better lately and we're both happier as a result. Plus it helps if I remember to take my Seroxat/Peroxatine! LOL.
