31 Dec 2009 - Followup: I'm so happy for my cousin.
Looks like my cousin Ilene and my aunt Carol (Ilene's grandmother) have reconciled at last.

When Ilene traveled to Ohio earlier this week for a holiday family visit, she made a point of taking a trip to her grandmother's nursing home to see her, although not without some trepidation on her part, as it had been three full years since they had spoken, and it was Grandma who'd cut off all contact. But brave girl that she is, Ilene soldiered on. She brought along two of her kids plus their little puppy for support, and along the way they stopped and picked up a little Christmas gift.

Ilene, with family in tow, entered her grandmother's small apartment at the home and presented her with the gift. "You didn't need to bring me a gift, Pixie," my aunt said. "Your being here is present enough."

They visited for two hours and all went well. A happy ending after several years of estrangement.

I finally got a long overdue haircut this afternoon. The barbershop was very busy -- I had to wait a long time for my turn -- but it was OK because there were several hot young guys to cruise and anyway, it was well worth the wait.

As luck would have it, hunky young RJ got to cut my hair. I felt like I'd won the lottery.

I asked him to examine my hair and my scalp before cutting, particularly on the right side of my head where my hair was looking rather funky... and my awful suspicions were confirmed. The hair on that side was considerably shorter than the rest, even though I always get everything buzzed off at exactly the same length. For some reason it just wasn't growing in as fast. We also confirmed that I have an unusually dry patch of scalp on that side... and I'm wondering whether that's causing the stunted hair growth. I guess I'll have to keep an eye on it -- see if there's anything I need to go to a doctor about -- and in the meantime get into the barbershop more often so they can even it out before the disparity becomes really obvious.

Despite all this, however, I had a good time. There was a lot of touching and such on RJ's part... hands on my shoulderblades... and he hot-lathered me at the neckline and gave me a shave without my asking, and rinsed me off with a towel soaked in warm water -- man, it felt so good! He also felt me up on the sides of my neck and commented, "God, Dan, your neck is really tight." I did have somewhat of a headache at the time, so maybe I was a bit tense. Anyway, if he's not careful, he just might make me fall in love with him. Or maybe I'm the one who should be careful, as he's straight... or so he says.
