I had left Scott a very generic, innocuous greeting on his Facebook Wall page... oh, about a week or so ago. Today I heard back. Apparently Johann (his mom) has been trying to contact me, and so he sent me her phone number. Said I should call her. It's been 17 years since I last talked to her, so I'm kind of excited about reuniting with yet another family member. Hard to believe she's in her 70s now. I wouldn't mind taking a trip up to Minneapolis sometime soon and visiting them. That would be nice. I'm feeling kind of weird now about the fact that, 14 years ago this month, I just up and moved to Chicago without telling anyone in the family where I was. ~~~~~~~~~The good news: My landlady is offering me a two-year lease renewal for her condo. The bad news: She's raising my rent $40. Now, that's only a 2.7 percent increase, which isn't bad I suppose, except for the fact that due to the current economic situation, rents in my area, and in my building in particular, are actually down a bit from where they were this time last year. Nicer units than mine are going for less than I'm currently paying. At least that's the impression I'm getting from checking the ads. So I don't think she should increase my rent at all. But I'm not feeling like haggling over it, nor do I want to move again right now, so I'll probably just bite the bullet and pay it.
