I decided not to participate in that particular exercise that's making the rounds right now, because I already did a much bigger one like that last summer -- containing a full 100 items -- and that's quite enough. For anyone who missed it back then, here's the link:
* * * 100 Things About Me * * * There is one item in there that I would have to revise today. Item No. 34 states that "My ethnic background is 50 percent Italian/Sicilian, 25 percent English, and 25 percent Scots-Irish."
That's what I believed my entire life until last September, when I started researching my family tree and discovered an entire Swiss/German side I never knew about, in the ancestry of my supposedly "Scots-Irish" grandfather. I discovered that, in that line, I'm descended from railroad workers, doctors, a long line of Mennonites, and, if you go back far enough, quite a few Swiss war heroes. Now I want to visit Hamilton, Ontario and Pennsylvania Dutch country, as well as Kappel am Albis, Switzerland, and see where my ancestors lived.
