Bitter cold wind chills. Just enough snow on the sidewalks to make them really slippery. And I had to go out walking in it today, two full miles as it turned out. Color me crabby.I was only intending to venture as far as the Thai restaurant about four blocks away, which I did... I enjoyed a wonderful meal there, starting off with crab rangoon and sweet-and-sour sauce, followed by the main entree, yellow curry made with carrots, potatoes, onions, hot peppers, and tofu... spicy hot, please.
But last night when I went to bed, I realized when I took out my contact lenses that I was running low on soaking solution, and that what I had left might or might not last until Saturday, the day this bitter cold snap is finally supposed to lift.
So I was forced to trudge the streets today to buy some more. Which I did after my Thai meal, but I had to go to four different stores before I found my brand. And I couldn't just settle for another brand because others cause allergic reactions in my eyes.
So I ended up trudging two freaking miles, total, in the bitter cold, slipping and sliding on the sidewalks and the wind stinging my face and ears. But tomorrow (and maybe Friday) are going to be even worse with the bitter cold, so I had to do it today. It's days like this that I wish I still had a car.
But now it's done, and now I can stay holed up in the apartment until Saturday if need be. Tonight (and tomorrow), the wind chills are supposed to reach dangerous, deadly levels: -35 degrees or worse. And actual temps (not wind chills) can dip as low as -15 tonight, and tomorrow's high is only supposed to be -1. The weatherman said it's probably going to be the coldest weather Chicago has seen since 1996.
So much for global warming. Pfffft.
