5 Dec 2008 - Broken lenses and other incidents
Infrastructure going wrong... The water stream from my kitchen faucet is down to a very thin trickle right now. I think it's just a clogged aerator due to repeated water shutoffs in the building this past week (they've been working on major repairs/upgrades to the water delivery system).

While I was dealing with that, the contact lens popped out of my left eye for no apparent reason, and without warning. I looked for it on the white tile floor but couldn't find it. Unbeknownst to me, it was hiding in the dark grout space between two floor tiles, which I only found out later when I stepped on the stupid lens and broke it into several jagged pieces.

So now I'm wearing an old contact lens and feeling a bit off.

Just one more interruption from my regular slothful schedule to have to deal with. Why me? Why now? I'm not a happy camper at the moment. In fact, I'm pretty pissed.

I was in shock when I saw Shelley Fabares on "The O'Reilly Factor" this evening. Suddenly she looks like a wrinkled old grandmother, and even her voice has changed. When did this happen? She still looked super for her age when she played Christine on "Coach"... and wasn't that only a few years ago?

I'm too young to remember her from "The Donna Reed Show" -- I've seen maybe one old rerun of that sitcom in my entire life, probably on TV Land or someplace -- but she was my favorite when she played Francine Webster on "One Day At A Time" back in the early '80s. Francine, if you recall, was Ann Romano's old nemesis back in the day when she worked for an ad agency, and when Ann struck off on her own and started her own business, Francine somehow schemed and connived her way into being Ann's business partner. She was not supposed to be a likeable character, always making these snippy little jabs at Ann, but I saw her differently: stylish, sophisticated, urban, urbane... all the things I wanted to be. I absolutely adored her, and was thrilled when the show's producers made her a regular character. Furthermore, she looked positively gorgeous back then! I wanted to be just like her.

And now she's a little old lady. Imagine that!

Well, she still looks good, I suppose. But she does look her age... which she didn't before.

5 Dec 2008 - Smokin' Dude
This one's just to cheer myself up a little... this is one of movie actor Caspar Van Dien, from some years ago:
