Life should not be a journey to the grave, with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming
WOW! What a Ride!
BE BRAVE, BE STRONG
|
I know it doesn't sound like much, but a little bit ago I told RC I was going to Bruce's this evening.
I thought about it beforehand, and about all the times he's told me not to ask, to just tell him. I've always asked, though, because I wanted his "permission", or at least didn't want to feel like I was doing something he didn't approve of. With what's happened this last week, with RC making that ultimatum, and my resisting it, and finally telling him I wouldn't give Bruce up, well, asking "permission" seemed like a wrong move.
I have to show him I mean it. He has to know my relationship with Bruce is not negotiable, and that I will see him.
He's gone a little silent on me, a little cold, and I've come down here to my office, a friendlier, safer-feeling spot, my haven. Interestingly, my horoscope today says it's all right to "disappear into [my] cave.
I was listening to my Jesse Winchester Cd this morning, and when he sang this song, I knew I would have to learn it:
That's What Makes You Strong
If you love somebody Then that means you need somebody And if you need somebody That's what makes you weak But if you know you're weak And you know you need someone O it's a funny thing That's what makes you strong
That's what makes you strong That's what gives you power That's what lets the meek come sit beside the king That's what lets us smile In our final hour That's what moves our souls And that's what makes us sing
And to trust somebody Is to be disappointed It's never what you wanted And it happens every time But if you're the trusting kind This don't even cross your mind O it's a funny thing That's what makes you strong
That's what makes you strong That's what gives you power That's what lets the meek come sit beside the king That's what lets us smile In our final hour That's what moves our souls And that's what makes us sing

(Right now, I'm listening to Wolfstone, a Celtic group I'd never heard of until last night, when they showed up on newsgroups. Haven't heard anything with lyrics yet, but they're definitely accomplished musicians.)

LOVE IS FAIR
|
Another song from Jesse Winchester. It makes me think of both Bruce and RC, but in a strange way. Bruce almost always makes me laugh, whether he's made me cry or not. RC...well, I guess RC is just RC, isn't he? He tries, and almost always, he can make me smile after the hurt.
Or maybe I'm just a lamer, and this song doesn't really apply to either of them, and I just like it!
Love Is Fair
I remember not that long ago You cared about me and you told me so But now the atmosphere is cool and dry I get the feeling this will be good-bye
I'll admit that you'd be wise to go I'll admit what you already know And though I've done you like I just don't care You must admit that I was always fair
Don't I make you laugh If I make you cry Don't I wipe each tear I bring to your eye If I break your heart I make all repairs I can fix that hurt Girl I put it there Oh yeah, love is hard but love is fair
Gee, I wish that this was Hollywood Where the bad guy is bad and the good guy is good Cause I'd be the hero in your every scene We would run the bad guy right off the screen
Don't I make you laugh If I make you cry Don't I wipe each tear I bring to your eye If I break your heart I make all repairs I can fix that hurt Girl I put it there Oh yeah, love is hard but love is fair
