Hi All!We're happy to announce that Openfiction 1.5 is now online!
Here's a list of all the work that's been done:
Charts on the Front Page
There are three charts, a random one will appear each time you view it. They will be a bit empty for the moment, but they'll soon fill up as people use the system.
Reader Comments
It's finally here, that checkbox that you've all been puzzled about now finally has a purpose in life. Readers can now, if you elect to let them, leave you comments about your works! It works exactly like the Dear Diary comment system, so it should be nice and easy to understand.
Major tidy up on Library
The library itself has been cleaned up significantly. All of the filter stuff has been removed because just about nobody seemed to be able to use it easily (including myself, once there were a lot of works on the system). Now if you select the Authors, you will get all of them. There's a lot more pagination going on as well, so if there's a big list of authors or works etc, then they will be shown a few at a time so the page comes up quicker.
Pagination of the Work Itself
We've written some code to try to paginate the work itself - it will attempt to keep the work to around a screen full at a time although it's very heavily guestimating :)
Search
Another new feature for this release is the ability to search through the entire library for works that meet your criteria. This works just like a search facility should - put that old filtering mechanism out of your mind and relegate it to your nightmares, the search facility is easy to use :)
Show own works when logged in
When you're logged in and you look at your own bookshelf, you will now see works that other readers wouldn't, ones you haven't published yet because they're not finished for example). This means you can write your work, then go and view it and check through it before you publish it.
Subscriber Facilities
When a subscribed user is logged in they will see no banners, and their username is prefixed (or suffixed in some cases) with the infamous Smiley face icon to indicate they are subscribed :)
Also we've added the Subscribe button so if you want to subscribe, please do :) We'd very much appreciate it :)
There are a number of other more minor bug fixes and tidyups but the biggest change is in the library so take a look - you should be able to find things to read a lot easier now!
