This was the date that I joined Second LifeI kept hearing stories about this world "Second Life". The first time I heard about it I was playing the game called The Sims Online. I didn't really like this game too much, it was quite boring, and I was mostly interested in building homes, and in this game you really couldn't. But, I met this nice lady who told me she was going to go back to play Second Life... that was about all that I got out of her, and I searched the net and found it, I knew my computer wouldn't be able to handle it, so I didn't bother trying.
I searched the internet and found another website called "There" and that seemed good, so I downloaded it. I called my friend Mimi up and told her that I thought we should join There together... so we did... I played There for about 6 months, I got really into it, and had a lot of fun making Giggles, which are emotes that you can make by creating macros for the avatars. It was so much fun for me, that I was spending a lot of time creating emotes and dances, more than doing anything else.
Mimi was busy socializing, and she was always going off with guys she met in the game. I was busy challenging myself and learning new things. I would often get called away and teleported to different areas of the game by some of my There friends. At one party I met a guy named Striker Wolfe. He would turn out to be the deciding factor on me joining Second Life. I'll tell you more about him in a bit.
Anyways... for now, back to downloading Second Life... so, after much encouragement from Striker I finally downloaded and installed Second Life. I logged in and I tried it out. It was so completely different from There, that I just didn't know how to work it. The first thing I did was I did the big tutorial that comes with the game, tutorial island I think they call it. My avatar seemed awkward, and I was lagging a lot. I knew my computer couldn't handle this virtual world, and even though I really liked going online, I never kept my computer up-to-date. Call me lazy... I just had a big paper weight for a computer and as long as I could do my emails, and my diary occasionally.. what did I care about serious gaming or virtual worlds?
Second Life was downloaded and installed on November 22, 2004 but I spent no more than 15 minutes on it the first time. I thought it was way too hard, and my computer was way too laggy. I gave up even attempting to learn this game.
I left the game... and only re-returned a week before Christmas at even more poking and prodding and encouragement from Striker. He encouraged me to upgrade my computer, get memory, get a graphics card, get with it! So, I put in some more memory, but I didn't bother with the graphics card... I still struggled terribly all around Second Life, but I was sticking with it this time. I just learned how to buy my avatar clothing, and skins and hair! I wasn't going to go anywhere now this was too much fun, like Barbies!
So I made my first avatar... a tan, blonde representation of myself.. only a lot cuter. No matter how good I thought she looked, everyone, and I do mean everyone who played Second Life for any period of time could totally tell that I was a noob! I reeked Noob!
Oh, but to go back to those days when everything in Second Life was new...
