Friends List

January 4, 2009.
We pass through the door into a long throne room. At the other end from us are four figures. Two we recognize as Melisandre and Cassius. The third is a large figure, Mephistopheles, Lord of the Eighth circle of hell. The other is an average sized man bald and with adamantine colored skin. He doesn’t seem to be wearing armour but is just dressed richly. We’d researched him as well when researching Mephisto. He is the Lord of Blades and serves Mephisto. There are figures frozen into the walls of the icy throne room. Angels and Alderians to name a few.

The Lord of Blades requests permission to dispatch Thokk personally. Thokk gives him a bring it gesture. The Lord of Blades begins to hover. Estas discerns that he’s cast a fly spell. We wade into battle. During the course of fighting the Lord of Blades manages to do several of us some injury before disappearing. Melisandre charges into battle, clearing the space between her and Alrick. She manages to gouge him in his ear, affecting Alrick’s intelligence.

Ubu moves to flank the Lord of Blades along with Thokk and uses his Ancient Mountain Hammer maneuver to hurt him fairly badly, though Cassius casts Harm on him in return. My Nature’s Avatar spell absorbs all that damage luckily.

Unfortunately, shortly there-after Alrick is killed, yet again. Estas casts Fireball as a ray, which he is able to do since he is a Spellwarp Sniper, targeting Cassius. Cassius is killed and is punished by being forced to instantly respawn as a Soul Larvae. Mephisto points to the larvae and calls out, “That belongs to me.” Melisandre is, naturally, greatly angered by the death of her lover.

I call out and call dibs on Cassius’s wedding band, which I plan to have blessed in a goodly temple and that my next goal will be to make Melisandre eat it. Lia calls out in response to me not to do that, rather that it looks to be Alrick’s size.

I target Melisandre’s spear with a Dispel Magic, Greater. I successfully disenchant then cast Foresight. Ubu manages to significantly injure the Lord of Blades again, using his Blood Letting Strike Maneuver which weakens the Lord. (Bloodletting brings down the constitution score, additionally he critted the lord and did additional damage to his con score) However, the lord turns his attention fully on Ubu and does a considerable chunk of injury to him in return.

Mephisto attempts to cast Disintegrate on me, but it doesn’t work as intended. It only hurts me a little. Melisandre manages to seriously injure Estas, and Estas becomes exhausted due to a serious chest wound.

The battle raged on for what seemed like forever. Hits were traded, and Melisandre seemed to just refuse to die.

During the course of battle Lia was killed. We did manage to defeat all our foes. Ubu killed the Lord of Blades. I killed Melisandre. Alrick Diverted Mephisto’s attempt to teleport away, sending him to the Abyss instead.

We find a great deal of treasure and are gifted with a plethora of magical items from the Church of Saoirse.

We take the airship and return to Camelard. Along the way, as I trance, I’m visited by several faery creatures, tall and slender with pearlescent skin. They remind me of the debt I owe the fae and that the time has come to repay it. In my trance they give me a wooden bowl and cold iron dagger in a box with a deer horn handle. They warn me to be cautious with the dagger as it has the power to destroy any illusion it touches. They also tell me that when the bowl is filled with the blood of a sacrificial animal it can be used as a scrying device. I’m not sure that I’ll ever use that particular item. I offer them my thanks and question the gifts. They tell me that they will be useful in my new duties, as the Morrigan. I sigh heavily and shake my head. That was not completely unexpected.

The bowl and dagger are there when I wake, and when we arrive at Camelard I search out the mound in the woods I’d visited when I met the Morrigan who was before me. She’d left me a note dated the day before we headed into hell thanking me for taking over her position.

Estas takes the first step toward god-hood by becoming a direct minion of his god, Foolsbane and gains immortality. Though everybody thinks he’s quite mad when he tells them. Lia and Alrick marry. Thokk takes the throne of Camelard.

Our years of toil and struggle have finally culminated in victory. It has been a long time coming, but our foes are defeated and their impending threat is only a memory. A memory that the entire world may not have even been aware of, and that is exactly as it should be. A few sing our praises, but for now we are blissfully allowed back into the quiet shadows. We may not know what tomorrow will bring, but we have earned this rest.

(We’ve been playing this campaign steadily for the past six to seven years. We’ve taken short breaks and played a few other settings and short campaigns along the way, but this has been central to our Role Playing lives for a very long time. Now we move on to a new setting and a new campaign with new characters and new stories. It isn't all logged in here, but its in our hearts and minds. Thank you for reading, and good play!)

This is a diary kept from the in character perspective of a Dungeons and Dragons role playing character...
It isn't real.
