Thokk attacks the squat woman with the ax and does her a significant amount of damage. Ubu follows his lead but isn’t able to get past her armour. We all manage to band together and finish them off. We discover a small amount of treasure on the bodies, but the most important is an adamantine key that opens the gate they’re guarding. We walk down a long corridor and reach a large room. We keep on, finding statues that seem a little to realistic. Especially the devils wrapped in chain.. That are breathing. They realize that we’ve spotted them and slowly slide down from the ceiling. We realize that they’re like the chain devils we’d faced in the past but seemingly stronger. I cast align fang on Ubu, aligning his teeth to good. I get caught up and grappled by one of the devils. Thokk manages to do one of the four devils a decent amount of injury, followed by Ubu closing on the one holding on to me and injuring him as well. Alrick tries to attack one of the others, but his spell fizzles. Lia prays to her goddess and squashes the one holding me in on himself. I cast Trueseeing on the devil that Estas had shrunk down earlier. He’d managed to cast Mirror Image on himself. I cast Finger of Death on the real one, and that leaves us two remaining devils. Estas uses his Rod of WTF and summons an elephant into the room.
Unfortunately, one of the devils turns its attention onto Alrick, using its Avalanche of Blades maneuver. He attacks Alrick several times, each separate slash lands until Alrick is left badly wounded. Ubu closes on the devil attack Alrick and uses his Rabid Bear Strike maneuver. Alrick then casts Ultrablast.
We continue on, with one of the devils killed off and instead of simply dying it turns into a wormlike creature. I use him to line up an Arc Lightening, sending it between it and the remaining devil. The worm is pasted, and the remaining devil is hurt. We all continue on, managing to finally defeat the last devil. Lia takes a moment and heals all my injuries.
The door at the end of the room has no handle. It looks as though we can push it, but its covered in spikes. We manage to get the door open without injury. Inside we find a huge statue, standing in front of a round door. When Estas moves toward it, it moves and Estas retreats. We try to convince it to let us pass. It won’t let us. It seems the only way that we can get in the room is to challenge his master, but the only way we can challenge the master is to get past the portal guardian. Thokk takes him up on that with the rest of us following suit.
Ubu taunts the wolf as I cast Align Fang on him, aligning his bite attacks to good. Alrick casts Psychic Crush on the creature. His spell is successful, and the Guardian falls forward. Thokk manages to avoid it, but Lia ends up pinned. We face the door to the next room. Behind it lies our goal, what we’d been fighting for this entire time.
