Chatted with a colleague about the new idea that a major gallery's education department might engage with Black History Month this year. It's the first year this is even under consideration. (There are not more than 2%artworks by non-white people, in its broadest definition, currently on display). The all white heads of department were considering whether it is appropriate or tokenistic. I pointed out to her - the only non-white person, and newest member of the department, how funny it is that all decisions taken seem to maintain the status quo, seem to undermine or prolong the invisibility of black creativity. They use the language of post-colonialism or radical politics simply to continue misrepresenting a world view in their favour.

NBAll diary entries are based on my own perception of a situation or event. They are subjective reflections and often written well after the fact. Other people I mention will have their own version of the events I describe and might disagree with their portrayal. This project is not about libelling people or stigmatising them but about recording my own perceptions of racism as a person sensitized to racism, both as a victim of racism and as a racist.
