A man got on the train and refused to sit down though it was nearly empty and there were loads of seats available. For no good reason, I felt that he considered himself too good to sit down. He was young, had darker skin and long beard that I associate with practising Muslim men but he was wearing western clothes. I wove a narrative around him in my head that was filled with prejudice about Muslim men. And this was based on... nothing except for the fact that he chose not to sit down.

NBAll diary entries are based on my own perception of a situation or event. They are subjective reflections and often written well after the fact. Other people I mention will have their own version of the events I describe and might disagree with their portrayal. This project is not about libelling people or stigmatising them but about recording my own perceptions of racism as a person sensitized to racism, both as a victim of racism and as a racist.
